Antarctic, Charles X, Dumont d'Urville's Voyage of the Corvette Astrolabe to New Zealand and the Antarctic, 1826. 50 mm bronze medal, by F. Depaulis, listing the patrons of the expedition. From 1822 - 1842, Lieut. d'Urville circumnavigated the world three times as executive officer on the Coquille during the South Seas expeditions, afterwards publishing a volume on the flora of the Falkland Islands. From 1826 - 29, he commanded the Astrolabe tasked with augmenting the scientific knowledge amassed on the previous expedition. In his official instructions to d'Urville in 1826, Secretary of the Navy Comet de Charbol wrote: '30 silver and 450 bronze medals struck to commemorate the Astrolabe expedition to distribute in the countries you visit and wherever you deem it useful to leave some mark of your passage.'

Meret Oppenheim (1913-1985) probably manufactured by Simon International 'Traccia' side table, originally designed 1936, circa 1973 Bronze, giltwood 64.5cm high, 68cm wide, 53cm deep Condition Report: Top surface with scratches throughout as well as some small indentations. There are some small losses and rubbing to gilding and a few small losses to gilding on edge of table top. Stand with light even patination throughout, some minor surface wear to include light scratches and marks.
Fritz Behn (1878-1970) Weib vom panther überfallen, first half 20th century Bronze Signed to base 'Fritz Behn' 108cm high, 112cm wide, 62cm deep Provenance Collection of George Paveliev Gibbes, thence by decent to the current owner Footnote Fritz Behn was a German sculptor who is best known for his sculptures depicting African animals. Between 1907-10, Behn made two trips to East Africa where he stayed for extended periods making anatomical drawings and studies of the indigenous wildlife. This experience proved to be a pivotal moment in Behn's artistic career. On his return to Munich, Behn began to create small and large scale animal sculptures based on his African studies. These sculptures showcased Behn's skill in capturing movement and detail, gaining him international recognition and accolades.
