A Great War DCM group of six Medals to 6892 Colour Sergeant William Hunsworth, Yorkshire Light Infantry, Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1914 Star, British War Medal (Lieutenant), Victory Medal (Lieutenant), Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (George V 1st type), Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal (Lance Corporal, dated May 29th 1904). Colour Sergeant Hunsworth was attached to the 2nd Nigerian Regiment and his citation for the DCM reads ?For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has always been most conspicuous for his coolness whenever his company has been engaged with the enemy, and has at all times performed his duties in a most capable manner?. Citation for Royal Humane Society Medal reads ?On the 28th May 1904, two men of the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry were swept away while bathing in a rough sea at Candia, Crete. Hunsworth went out and caught one of them, and Sergeants Moore and Sanderson, with Private Cox, formed a chain and he was got in, but the three men forming the chain were swept out by the backwash. Hunsworth with Privates Bateson, Edwards and Fox, at great risk, tried to save them but failed, and they were drowned?. Together with a quantity of relevant research material, (Medals very good condition)
An 18th Century Chinese Bronze and Cloisonné double gourd shaped Snuff Bottle, decorated with typical foliage on a pale blue ground with gilded detail, (stopper missing), 3 ¼? high Condition:"Pin prick" holes to enamel throughout over 90% of surface. No stopper. Losses to gilding at waist where handles join to body. Gilding stained. A gold pearl and diamond peas in a pod brooch, possibly Continental. A polished peapod, split to reveal a satin finish interior, with a line of six pearls peg set in a row. All varying shades of mink, dusty pink, mocha, bronze and chocolate. The end grain set with seven rose cut diamonds, to a lightly hammered back. Tested as approximately 15ct and 9ct gold. Replacement revolver catch fitted. Pearls untested CONDITION REPORT: Requires a gentle clean.No obvious faults.
A pair of white gold, Tahitian cultured pearl and diamond drop earrings, each earring composed of a brilliant cut diamond set half hoop top, with three concentric hoops, all micro claw set with brilliant cut diamonds. The hoops all independently suspended with an 11.5mm bronze Tahitian cultured pearl suspended to the centre. Post and hinge fittings. Marked 750. One earring damaged CONDITION REPORT: Light surface scratches throughout.Fittings appear secure.Jump ring broken between the medium and smallest sized hoop of one earring.
