German Sports Medals Early 1900s made of sterling and bronze. 2 3/8 x 1 5/8 in. wide, the small soccer pin from 1891 measures 1/2 in. wide, and the display case is 19 1/2 x 15 3/4 in. wide. 22 German sports medals and pins that range from 1909 to 1929, all first, second, and third place awards won by Otto Bremer, a German athlete that we don’t know much about, but judging by the variety of medals, he had to be a tremendous athlete. The pins and medals cover golf, the hammer throw (Schleuderball in German, or sling ball), weightlifting, archery, soccer, gymnastics - even a triathlon (dreikampf) - and there is also a German Iron Cross with a medal depicting Samson (Simson) fighting a lion in the middle. We have not seen any Iron Crosses awarded for sports heroics, so this is indeed an unusual variety of pins and medals. At the bottom of the display case, in the center, there is a German National Sports Badge that was awarded by the army prior to 1937, and we don’t know if Otto had any military service, but he can be seen in the photo wearing many of the pins and badges, and by the dates on the medals, we believe he earned them in the late teens to mid 1920’s. One pin is dated 1891 and was earned for soccer at a local sports club, but we’re not sure if Otto was alive then, so this may have been an early acquisition by him or someone in the family. To give you a sense of size, the Iron Cross measures 2 1/4 in. in diameter, the golf medal measures

Father and son made patinated and sculpted bronze tables and cabinets combining innovative techniques such as casting bronze in low-relief sheets with traditional styles in a way that has rarely been matched since for its idiosyncratic artistry.

GoldeneTapferkeitsmedaille "Al Valore Militare" 1917 - Bronzenes Substitutionsexemplar.. Substitution Award of the Golden Bravery Medal for the Recipients Family as the Pure Gold Original Example was Donated to the Italian Nation. This bronze Italian Bravery Medal (Al VALORE MILITARE) features the inscription: "ORO ALLA PATRIA" and is surrounded by a laurel wreath. The reverse is engraved: "PINTUD /GIUSEPPE " and "MONTE ZEBIO / 10 GIUGNO 1917". The original ribbon features a silver embroidered star and a bronze clasp with the dedication: "18 NOVEMBRE 1935 a XIV". The 1935 fundraising campaign for the Italian Nation sparked a wave of patriotism, which resulted in numerous living recipients of the highest Italian bravery award, the gold medal Al VALORE MILITARE, as well as family members of former recipients donating their gold medals. They received an official replacement decoration in the form of this special type bronze medal. These medals are an important testimony to the sacrifice and love of country of these Italian Patriots and represent a medal of perhaps greater value than the original gold medals. As a WW I. replacement medal especially interesting and an extremely rare example of the highest Italian bravery award.
