A JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912) BRONZE TWO-HANDLED GLOBULAR VASE. Decorated in high relief with a dragon reserved against a deep red-brown patinated ground, with dragon cast geometric handles, the interior of the foot signed, 21.5cm highBoth handles are partially detached at lower terminal, with evidence of repair to the interior to one handle, this vase is lacking three feet, with old repairs to holes where feet are lacking above foot rim, small indentation and hole to lower body of vase beside a cloud, small rectangular section repair at shoulder, some slight indentations to the foot rims and extremities.

A RARE CHINESE EASTERN HAN DYNASTY STONE TOAD MONEY TREE BASE. An extremely rare toad-shaped pedestal, or base, for the legendary coin-shedding “money tree”. The money tree itself would comprise a bronze trunk, or pole, to which were attached finely-cast bronze branches, the leaves of which would depict mythical animals and beings as well as coins. The bronze trunk would be inserted into its base. Although several money tree bases are known to have survived, the bronze trees are usually only found in fragments, although there are a handful of complete examples to be found in Chinese museums. Most known money tree bases are made of moulded pottery and can take various forms, again usually depicting various mythical creatures. Stone money tree bases are much rarer than pottery examples. This particular example is in the form of a toad. It sits with head raised very slightly. There are faint traces of red pigment to the eyes and mouth. In its back is the hole into which was placed the trunk of the money tree.Length 36 cm (14 inches), height 20 cm (8 inches), weight 28.5 kg (63 lbs).Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 – 220).From a Sussex collection, acquired in 1995.For more information about money trees, refer to the British Museum book "Mysteries of Ancient China". The only reference we can find to a stone money tree base, that also happens to be in the form of a toad, is in the 1998 Peoples Fine Arts Publishing House (Beijing) book, "The Great Treasury of Chinese Fine Arts, Sculpture 2, Sculpture of the Qin and Han Dynasties".

A THAI BRONZE SEATED FIGURE OF BUDDHA, 8th-10th CENTURY AD, OXFORD TL TESTED. Seated in maravijaya dressed in a robed draped over the left shoulder. 15.5cm tall. Weight 698 grams. Together with an Oxford Thermoluminescence Analysis Report, Sample No. N121j56, dated 20 September 2021, concluding the casting core is consistent with the suggest period of manufacture.Small 4mm hole to front right side. No signs of repair in good order.

The first with tall neck, cast with lappets and pierced beast handles, the globular body with birds amongst flowers, 25.7cm high and the second pair with pierced flower-spray handles, the bodies cast with birds amongst prunus, on pierced floral integral stands and gilt lined foot rim, 25.5cm highThe first pair in good order, some minor wear. The second pair - one floral handle cracked and partly detached, another handle is loose, only one with gilt lined base, one with some very small holes to integral base, some wear overall.

AFTER AIME MILLET (1819-1891), BRONZE SCULPTURE, 'THE YOUTH STRIPPING ROSES'. 20th Century, cast standing holding aloft a posy of roses, wearing a long flowing dress, on square base inscribed AIME MILLET and with further rubbed mark M... to base, 66.5cm high With join at upper raised arm which occurred during manufacture, this may have originally be concealed by a bracelet. There is some noticeable rubbing and wear to patination around face, chest and arms, some wear and possible retouching to patination at base.
