A Chinese two handled bronze censor, 18th century, of depressed form on three rui feet, gilt splashed, apocryphal nine character Xuande mark, 14cm. This nine character apocryphal Xuande mark includes the name Wu Pang-tso, although no fifteenth century bronze with the name appears to be genuine. For further information see The Second Bronze Age, Sydney Moss Ltd, 1991, nos 46 and 47, where censors with similar marks are illustrated.
Theodore Riviere (French 1857-1912) `Salammbo Chez Matho` (Matho kneeling before Salammbo), signed Theodore-Riviere `Carthage` and verso Susse Fes Edt and with struck Susse Freres Editeurs Paris stamp, gilt and bronze patinated and stamped `H` for the foundry Ciseleur Hubert, 41cm high. Based on Flaubert`s novel Salammbo of 1862 showing Matho kneeling before the high priestess. The model exhibited at the Salon Des Artistes Francais 1895 and the Exposition Universelle 1900.
Frederick Edward McWilliam, (1902-1992) ORBITAL, 1965 signed McW 2/5, polished bronze, 40cm. Provenance: Ashford Hall, Ashford-in-the-Water, Derbyshire. The vendor recalls her father purchasing the bronze from the Waddington Galleries Exhibited: Belfast, Ulster Museum, F.E. McWilliam, April-May 1981, no. 78 or 79, another cast: this exhibition travelled to Dublin, Douglas Hyde Gallery, May-June 1981; and Cork, Crawford Municipal Gallery, July-August 1981.
