A late 18th century Dutch mahogany and yew table de transformation, inlaid with ebony and sycamore banding and with gilt bronze draped mounts, the hinged top opening to reveal a later leather lined writing surface and a rising suprastructure fitted with four pigeon holes and five drawers around a central cupboard with a tambour shutter, with a further hinged leaf to the reverse above a dummy front on square tapering legs and block feet, 77cm high, 85.3cm wide, 42.5cm deep (closed).
A French gilt and patinated bronze figural table lamp in Empire style, with a classical female holding laurel branches on a marble plinth decorated with swags and male masks, with two lights, 19th century, fitted for electricity, with shade, 88.5cm high. A pair of 19th century French Empire gilt and patinated bronze three light candelabra, each in the form of a winged classical lady standing on an orb supporting a pair of griffin with stiff leaf sconces with a flaming urn sconce above a pair of satyr masks and a caduceus, the plinth bases applied with palmettes and a classical figure, 72.6cm high. (2) Provenance: Purchased from an Olympia Art & Antiques Fair in the 1990s. From the collection of Sir Jeremy Lever.
A Charles I bronze dated mortar, with lug handles the moulded body with a foundry badge 'WC' with an arrow, for William Clibury, Wellington Shropshire, with owners initials 'IY EY' and dated '1637', 17.3cm high, 23cm diameter. See Michael Finlay, English Decorated Bronze Mortars, p.111, pl.211 for the above mortar and a discussion of the Clibury foundry. Provenance: Formerly in the Hurst collection.
A late 16th century French iron coffret, the domed lid with a swing handle, revealing a vacant interior, the locking clasp is released by pulling out the front left foot, with a bronze key that is probably original, 10cm high, 12.4cm wide. Provenance: Purchased by the current vendor from Keith Hocken Antiques, Stow-on-the-Wold.
A Regency gilt bronze and cut glass three light candelabrum in the manner of John Blades, the lappet sconces above scalloped drip-pans hung with faceted rectangular drops and lustres, with reeded scroll arms above a lobed central support on a circular plinth and anthemion hairy paw feet, 64.3cm high, 45.5cm wide. John Blades (c. 1751-1829) established his glass and chandelier showroom at 5 Ludgate Hill in 1783. He was appointed glassmaker to George III in 1789. He is well known for his collaboration with the architect J. B. Papworth. Provenance: From the collection of Sir Jeremy Lever.
