A Japanese bronze, modelled as two tigers attacking an elephant with trunk and ivory tusks, character marks to underside elephant, possibly Seiya, Meiji period (1868-1912). Length 22 cm, height 18 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Each tusk has a slightly mottled appearance which leads us to believe it is marine ivory as opposed to elephant ivory. Overall in good order with no obvious faults. There are stripes on each tiger but these are not so obvious. There are no obvious signs of rubbing to the bodies and the patination remains consistent throughout. The left tusk has signs of old glue around its base but appears to be intact. There are small patches of erased patination on the underside of the feet of the tiger which is on its back. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CANNOT SEND IVORY ITEMS OUTSIDE THE EU
