India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze vessel in the form of the forepart of a cow decorated with numerous striations on the body and a Trishul at the shoulder. 305 grams, 12cm (4 3/4"). From an old London collection, formed in the 1980s. Known as a Gaumukhi Shringi, this is a ritual vessel for pouring libations over a statue of a deity. The name Gaumukhi means cow's mouth and relates to the glacier in the Himalayas of the same name, the source of the river Ganges. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
India, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze betel nut cutters in the form of a Makara looking backwards. 335 grams, 19cm (7 1/2"). Private collection, London, UK; acquired prior to 1990. A makara is a mythical aquatic monster, usually identified with a crocodile, although often shown with an elephant's trunk, a fish tail or foliated tail. The makara symbolizes water, the source of all existence and fertility, and is the conveyance of the goddess Ganga. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
Nepal, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze horn in the shape of a Makara; the animal has an open mouth with elephant's trunk above and tusks to either side; there are two horns on the head and the body is decorated with scales and bands of floral motifs; towards the mouthpiece, and near the neck, is a small ring for attaching a carrying rope. 325 grams, 52cm long (20 1/2"). Private collection, London, UK; acquired prior to 1990. A Makara is a mythical animal associated with water and fertility. Horns such as this are used in religious processions. Cast bronze top to a walking stick in the form of an elephant's head inlaid with silver; on the top of the head is a Trishul and on the socket below the head is a row of inlaid silver leaf shapes. 394 grams, 10cm (4"). Acquired on the London art market in the late 1980s. The inclusion of the Trishul would indicate that the head is to represent the god Ganesh. [No Reserve] Fine condition.

Cast bronze goad with three double incised lines on the shaft; above is an upward curving hook and suspension ring to the other side; above is a decorative finial in the shape of a bovine animal. 1 kg, 37cm (14 1/2"). Acquired on the London art market in the late 1980s. A goad is commonly used in India for directing elephants or cattle that are being used as transport. [No Reserve] Fine condition.

Cast bronze figure of a goat headed deity in erotic pose with a female with elaborate hair, both figures hold each others right leg in an elevated position, both figures standing on a base. 322 grams, 14.5cm (5 3/4"). From an old London collection, formed in the 1980s. A rare representation of a Tantric deity copulating with a female devotee. In Tantrism sex is seen as a means of transcending the mundane world and uniting with divine energies. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
A Regency ormolu and bronze mantel clock with white enamel dial with Roman numerals, set within a drum shaped case, surmounted by a gilt eagle and flanked by two rearing horses on a stepped base plyed with a Bacchus mask and ribbon tied and floral swags on decorative turned feet. Back engraved with JAs Duncan St. James's Street London. Provenance, lot No.58 Christie’s Pitchfoed Hall sale September 28th 1992.
Two 19th Century oil lamps, one having bronze column with rounded foot having a graduated cranberry glass reservoir with raised scroll decoration, the other having black column shaft with gilt metal mount and foot, base decorated with open work relief cherub's head design having a clear cut glass reservoir, both lacking shades. Tallest 67cm.
