A Victorian cast-iron miniature Safe, by R. Thompson, of traditional upright rectangular form with painted decoration, the door with a twelve-point locking mechanism enclosing a fitted interior with two lockable cupboards and two lockable drawers, the key escutcheon inscribed "1884 - R. Thompson", complete with keys, 7in (17.75cm) high x 5in (12,5cm) wide x 5in (12.5cm) deep, together with a bronze medallion for the 1888 Peoples Palace Workmans Industrial Exhibition, inscribed Special Award - R. Thompson (2) Note: This safe was the property of Alfred Langton Markham, 1923-2015, the vendor's father who was Managing Director of Chubb Locks. It was acquired when the Chubb museum was dispersed during the last century.
19thC / 20thC Exhibition Medallions: a collection of thirty-six gold, silver and bronze exhibition medallions, all relating to Safes, including 1851 - The Prize Medal of the Exhibition, all set in two transparent green perspex display mounts, each 20in x 20in (50.75cm x 50.75cm) square (2) Note: These medallions were the property of Alfred Langton Markham, 1923-2015, the vendor's father who was Managing Director of Chubb Locks. A pair of French Empire gilt bronze candelabra, each in the form of standing winged figures holding sconces united by floral cast swags, raised on further floral relief cast bulbous columns, to floral engraved mother of pearl inset circular bases, h.38cm Condition Report / Extra Information Probably originally wired for electricity.Both stand well.One mother of pearl base badly damaged.Small crack to ankle of one.Original gilt.Otherwise grubby but good.
