A 19TH CENTURY CHINESE HARDWOOD COLLECTORS CABINET ON STAND, consisting of small drawers and sliding cupboards having enamelled figure panels to the front, relief carved tree decoration and bronze handles in the form of bats standing on a heavily carved shaped base with bold cabriole legs and ball and claw feet joined by an under shelf 167cm high 82cm wide 41cm deep.
Attributed to Walter Gilbert (1871-1946), a Bromsgrove Guild bronze figure of Joan of Arc, modelled standing offering her sword, the base inscribed 'April 1429', and double stamped to the reverse 'Bromsgrove Guild' 27.50cm (11in) Other Notes: Walter Gilbert founded the Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts in 1898. The aim of the guild was to allow individuals to work in their own workshops whilst pledging co-operation and mutual support with their fellow artists. The guild expanded throughout Britain but was eventually dissolved in 1966. Everything was individually designed and handmade; larger public commissions included Buckingham Palace gates and under the direction of Sir Gilbert Scott, the bronze work and ornamental plaster figures of Liverpool Cathedral. One of Walter Gilbert's own designs was for a bronze medal of Joan of Arc very similar in style to this statue.
