In the manner of Massimiliano Soldani Benzi (Italian 1656-1740). An 18th century bronze figure of Mars after Francois Duquesnoy (Flemish 1597-1643), the Roman god holding an oval shield and a sword, standing on a naturalistic base, 29.7cm high. A cast of this present figure by Soldani can be found in the Bargello Museum in Florence.
A 19th century French 'Empire' mahogany bergere armchair, the flame veneered frieze applied with a bronze flowerhead and palmettes, above an upholstered back and seat with a loose cushion, with dolphin arm supports, on sabre front legs. Provenance: 'A Lifetime of Collecting'-The property of a gentleman.
A late Regency gilt and patinated bronze colza chandelier, decorated with scrolling leaves, palmettes and Bacchanalian satyr masks, with a leaf corona and hung with chains with scrolling serpent hooks, above a bud pendant, later adapted for electricity with four lights and colza cover and fittings now lacking, stamped 'No. 112 ct & ...' 82.8cm high, 47cm wide.
A pair of French stained beech 'Japonism' display cabinets attributed to Gabriel Viardot, with gilt bronze mounts, each with a Chinese style pagoda top centred with an emerging dragon, with oriental incised decoration and panels, with a glazed door enclosing a plush lined interior with shelves and a drawer, decorated with reticulated brackets, on scroll feet and later Shepherd castors, late 19th / early 20th century, 195cm high, 98.3cm wide, 47cm deep. (2) Gabriel Viardot (1830-1906) was a famous Parisian cabinetmaker and designer making furniture in the Chinese and Japanese styles. He mixed many East Asian decorative elements and his ideas were fuelled by French Colonial trading links with the Far East. In 1889 he won a gold medal at the Paris International Exhibition.
