Pierre-Jules Mêne - The Picador, a French brown patinated cast bronze equestrian figure group, the picador shown nobly riding with a lady`s fan seemingly just thrown at the feet of his mount, the base with cast signature and date `P.J. Mêne 1876`, height approx 94cm. Note: Number 3 in Mêne`s catalogue, the present model first appeared in wax at the 1876 Salon and in bronze the following year. This group compares with Mêne`s other major horse and rider groups, such as Valet de Chasse Louis XV and Groupe Chiens en Défaut.
