A Japanese Meiji period bronze figural gong, the figure depicted wearing traditional dress with a double gourd bottle at his waist, holding a gnarled staff and with toads crawling up him, holding aloft a beaten bronze gong, dark brown patination, with leather covered beater, fitted hardwood stand, 83cms high overall, the bronze figure 48cms high. This piece is said to have been presented to Sir John Knill, Lord Mayor of London (1909-1910), by the then Chinese Minister to London Li Ching-Fong.
