A FINE AND RARE BRONZE BIRD-SHAPED VESSEL "YI" China, Warring States Period (5th - 3rd centuries BC). Diameter 15 cm. This type of bronze vessel was used to pour water for handwashing, and was extensively used during the Warring States period. Heart-shaped body (ref.: Pingliang Miaozhuang M6:4), sanjiaowen decor on the sides typical for early Warring States period, traces of gilding on the surface. A BRONZE TRIPOD CENSER China, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Height 26 cm. Bronze censer on the three tall legs which are circular in cross-section. On the pronounced rim of the body with a round bottom are two vertical handles with a rectangular cross-section. The body is divided into three decorative fields by the narrow vertical ribs. Each of those fields is filled with an image of a theriomorphic face (taotie) with two oval eyes and without lower jaw, with eyebrows, heart-shaped ears, and two horns. The background is filled with a rectangular meander-like décor referred to as leiwen. In the upper part of each of the three legs there are protruding circular decorative bands with a narrow vertical rib. Reserve price: 85,000
