A collection of mainly Chinese porcelain items including a 19th Century Chinese lozenge shaped famille rose dish on oval foot, 20.5 cm x 13.8 cm, three 19th Century Chinese celadon glazed famille rose plates, each with different blue under glaze seal mark, approx 19 cm diameter, a famille noire polychrome floral decorated ginger jar bearing faux Qianlong over glazed oxide red printed seal mark, 18.5 cm high, a Chinese oxide red glazed floral decorated plate with faux Qianlong mark, 22.5 cm diameter, a blue glazed floral and foliate decorated stem cup with six character mark to base, 11 cm diameter x 11.8 cm high, two prunus blossom decorated ginger jars, a Chinese cloisonné bowl with water dragon decoration, bearing four character seal mark to base, 20 cm diameter, a Chinese verdigris patinated bronze wine vessel in the archaic manner, 18 cm high and a Japanese Satsuma baluster shaped vase decorated with warriors and a battle scene bearing four character seal mark to base, 21 cm high CONDITION REPORTS The lozenge shaped stand / dish has been broken and repaired in various places. Has significant firing faults, some chips to the base and roughness to the other edges. The celadon glazed plates - two have hairline fractures. All three have some roughness to the edges and losses to the decoration, particularly to the smaller of the three. There are some small chips to the edges. The famille noire ginger jar has some roughness / firing faults to the glaze and looks a bit patchy in areas. The lid has a small chip to the underside. The red oxide plate has some significant wear to the decoration throughout. Both ginger jars are very light. Otherwise general wear and tear. The cloisonne bowl has some white residue throughout, particularly to the base of the dish and the underside. The underside doesn't look quite right - unsure if something has been later let in or if badly manufactured in the first place. There are some small dings and knocks to the cloisonne throughout resulting in some areas of loss and other areas of bruising. The goblet type vessel has a large firing fault to the base. There is crazing throughout and some minor chips, remains of paint, etc. The patinated bronze wine vessel has some surface scratches, etc. The Satsuma vase has all-over crazing and some losses to the decoration. Otherwise all items have various general wear and tear conducive with age and use and are in need of a clean. See images for further detail.
A mahogany console table in the French Empire taste, the brown agate top over a plain frieze, on caryatid bronze capped columns, united by an undertier, 156 cm wide x 52.3 cm deep x 92.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS The agate top is relatively modern. The base appears to be a mid 20th Century copy. Has clearly been in store some time. Has heavy losses to the veneer on the base at the front corners. There are knocks and bumps etc to the edges as well as some heavier scratches throughout to the wood. The right hand pillar - the moulding is missing to the back of it. The right hand back pillar looks as though it has had a replacement section put on the back. It looks as though something has been removed from the back inside edge. Heavy wear and tear conducive with age and use to include some losses to the veneer and one section of gilding appears to have been replaced on the flower head scroll on the right hand corner top section. The top has some light surface scratching. Some roughness to the edge. There are some chips missing to various corners - see images for examples. circa 1830, temple shaped incorporating four cut crystal columns surmounted by a git bronze stepped top, gilded bronze face with Roman numerals closed in a stylised acanthus wreath, gridiron pendulum with gilt bronze bob, classical motif appliques to the top and base, raised on four ball feet, 19¼in. (49.9cm.) high.
"Shire Horse", bronze, signed and numbered on leg 'K Denton 2/12', No.2 of a limited edition of twelve, accompanied by a copy of the certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, 16in. (40.6cm.) long, 10½in. (26.7cm.) high, 12½in. (31.7cm.) high with base. Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist 16th November 1990 for £1,200.* Nice greyish patina, some residue / start of verdigris in deep work, good.
"Isadora Duncan", bronze on an integral polished black marble base, signed on the skirt "Plazzotta" and numbered "9/9" (number nine of an edition of nine), foundry stamp 'Fonde Ria Italy', 23in. (58.4cm.), wide, 28¼in. (71.8cm.) high. *In 1967 Plazzotta created two different models of Vanessa Redgrave in the role of the dancer Isadora Duncan.* Nice redish patina, plinth with very light surface wear, good.
"Dagga Smoker", bronze, postumous cast signed on the base "A. van Woow. S.A. _ Joh_burg", 20 x 9in. (50.8 x 22.9cm.) x 6¾in. (17.1cm.). Provenance; Purchased John's Auctioneers, Durban, South Africa, 1989. *Depicting a man crouched on the floor to smoke dagga (marijuana, a kind of hemp that grows wild in South Africa). He holds a calabash filled with water in his right hand and a pipe in his left. The artist started work on the figure in 1907 and it took a further nine months to complete what became one his most popular works. Casts were made in South Africa after the artist's death, of which the present lot is one.* Nice brownish patina, some verdigris to edges etc, good condition.
