‡ SAMUEL TONKISS (1909-1992) - HEAD OF LAURENCE STEPHEN LOWRY, RA, bronze, cast by the Maurice Singer Foundry London, in 1975, on slate plinth, 33cm h Samuel Tonkiss was born in Shropshire and moved to Todmorden in West Yorkshire, where he worked as a journalist. In 1959 he began to sculpt a series of portrait busts, some of which were cast in small editions. An earlier head of Lowry sculpted in 1971 is in the National Portrait Gallery, London. The present bust would appear to be extra to the edition of 36. Tonkiss wrote two autobiographies, Just for the Record and Raking Amongst the Embers. ++In fine condition

A good cased 5 shot 54 bore Adams Model 1851 self cocking percussion revolver, 11" overall, barrel 6¼" engraved on the top flat "Deane Adams & Deane (Makers to HRH Prince Albert), 30 King William Stt, London Bridge", the frame engraved with scrolls and "Adams's Patent No 4727R", the cylinder also engraved No 4727R; chequered walnut butt, the butt cap with shell engraved hinged trap. Very Good Working Order and Condition, retaining 95% of original mirror blued and colour hardened finish (some wear to buttcap). In its fitted oak case, with circular brass escutcheon in the lid, containing maker's trade label "To HRH Prince Albert", Adams 1851 marked double cavity bronze mould for bullet and ball with integral tail, bag shaped copper flask by Dixon (minor dents), nipple key with pricker, turnscrew, loading/cleaning rod with concealed worm, tin of lubricating composition, Joyce cap tin, modern wad punch, and a tool for piercing the wads. Good Condition Plate 40

A cased 5 shot 48 bore Webley solid frame double action percussion revolver, 11" overall, barrel 6" with multi groove rifling and Birmingham proofs, the top flat engraved "Deane & Son, 30 King William St, London", Adams type rammer on left, chequered walnut grips. Good Working Order and generally clean condition, retaining much original blue finish to barrel and cylinder, (some old refinishing to frame); in its green baize lined fitted oak case with circular brass escutcheon in the lid and with maker's trade label, containing a single cavity bronze pincer mould for pointed bullet, a wooden cleaning rod, reproduction turnscrew, pewter oil bottle, and a tin of percussion caps.
