Four early 19th century shaped circular papier maché dishes with openwork gilt bronze swing handles, two with bases bearing the impressed mark of Jennens & Bettridge, two of the deep dishes with wide everted rims are well painted with peacocks in garden settings and fine gilding, one on a shaded gold lacquer ground, the other apple green, the centre of the third painted with flowers and the broad edge with four floral paintings surrounded by foliate gilding on a black ground, the three approx.10in. Allectus (293-96), AE Antoninianus, London, radiate, cuirassed bust right, imp c allectvs p f avg, rev. adventvs avg, Allectus on horseback advancing to left, ml in ex. (RIC - ; Shiel - ), apparently unrecorded, good fine The adventvs avg type is known only in gold for Allectus and usually has a prone captive beneath the horse. This coin omits the captive so it seems to have been struck from dies prepared for a bronze issue. This coin is the first recorded for this type.
