AN EMPIRE BRONZE MOUNTED, PARCEL GILT, AMBOYNA AND INLAID MAHOGANY DESK CIRCA 1810 With a mechanical counter weight mechanism, the hinged top opening to reveal a rising architectural superstructure, a knee hole flanked by drawers 84cm high (closed),101cm wide, 70cm deep Provenance: Wannenes, Genoa, where purchased by Count Manfredi della Gherardesca, 23 March 2018, lot 61 Condition Report: Generally good and structurally secure. The catalogue illustration is accurate, the colour consistent. There is minor wear and tear and scuffing consistent with age and use. The gilt moulding with wear. The drawer handles are later replacements, probably originally with small knob handles. The heads and feet of the terms made of painted base metal, the columns probably maple or burr birch (rather than amboyna). Possibly of German or mid-European origin, secondary timbers are oak, pine and possibly poplar. The back is unfinished pine panelling. Note there are multiple secret and concealed drawers and compartments, secured by concealed catches. Overall in good order, an attractive, ingenious and intriguing cabinet. A GILTWOOD MIRROR ITALIAN, EARLY 19TH CENTURY The frame decorated with lion and shells motifs with a modern plate, probably previously a picture frame 146cm high, 125cm wide Provenance: Cambi casa d'Aste, Genoa, where purchased by Count Manfredi della Gherardesca, 8 March 2016, Lot 174 where purchased by Count Manfredi della Gherardesca Condition Report: Mirror with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use.Some shrinkage cracks to frame. Gilt appears to have been refreshed/re-gilded at some point. Gilt surface with the expected wear, chips, cracking and marks. It appears there is evidence that the gilt surface appears to have been applied with gold leaf. There are definite areas of 'bronze dust' however it is difficult to tell. Please refer to close up images of the gilding.The visible mirror is approx 107cm high x 84.5cm widebehind the mirror is 112.5cm high x 91cm widePlease note there is reference of old wood worm to the back.Mirror plate is a later replacement. EMANUEL FREMIET (1824-1910) Joan of Arc and Louis d'Orleans a pair of dark patinated bronzes, signed, 70cm and 62cm high respectively, on associated ebonised bases (2)Provenance: Private collection, Dorset.Note: Emmanuel Frémiet was a Parisian born sculptor who specialised in animal sculpture. He first exhibited in the Paris Salon at the age of nineteen with a sculpture of an Algerian gazelle. In 1853 Frémiet exhibited bronze sculptures of Emperor Napoleon III’s basset hounds at the Paris Salon. He produced his equestrian statue of Napoleon I in 1868 and of Louis d’Orleans in 1869 (at the Château de Pierrefonds). In 1874 the first equestrian statue of Joan of Arc erected in the Place des Pyramides, Paris and in 1889 a slightly altered version was erected in Nancy. He became a member of the Académie Française in 1892 and an honorary member of the Royal Academy in 1904.

Percimer Rudolfi (German, 1884-1932), 'Awakening', an Art Deco gilt bronze study of a female nude, signed in the cast, set to a square marble plinth, 20cm high CONDITION REPORT:The piece shows wear to the gilt finish, particularly to high points, commensurate with age and handling. The plinth show a build up of residue around the base of the figure.
