Italian / Russian / Austrian, Napoleonic era Commemorative Medal, bronze d.48mm: Alexander Suvorov, Liberator of Italy medal 1799, by C.K. Kuchler, EF, some scratches. Alexander Suvorov was a remarkable, elderly Russian general who led the Austro-Russian army to victory against Napoleon's forces in Italy. The other half of the Russian army under General Korsakov was shortly defeated in Switzerland, and Suvorov was ordered to withdraw from the conflict. His strategic retreat earned him the nickname - the Russian Hannibal. Suvorov was somehow blamed by the Tsar for the defeat at Zurich, and received a relatively modest funeral in 1800, but is considered a national hero today.

Comes with an original leather case, reminiscent of some kind of WWI field issue. It seems 'Intendent' translates to 'Quartermaster' in some circumstances.
