Liza Todd Tivey (born 1957) NORTHERN DANCER bronze, mid brown patina, mounted on a wooden plinth, height of bronze 37.5cm., 14 3/4in. Northern Dancer is one of a number of notable private commissions received by the sculptor Liza Todd Tivey. Others include Seattle Slew, John Henry, Secretariat and the half-life size memorial of Nashua at Spendthrift Farm. Edinburgh University bronze award medals (4) by A. Kirkwood awarded to R. T. Dunbar and associated with the J-phenomena arms in trilobe revs. Wreath and naming Ordinary Mathematics 1908-9; Natural Philosophy 1908-9; Physics Final Hon[ours] 1914-15; and Inter. Hon. Exp. Physics Margaret P. White 1913-14 all 52mm in cases of issue [one case broken]. Extremely fine. The J-phenomena and the quantum theory of scattering of X-radiation was investigated by R. T. Dunbar and Edinburgh graduate and Margaret P. White whom he was to marry. Both worked for several years with the scientist Charles Glover Barkla (1877-1944)
