A rare limited edition (185/250) set of the 'Penny Edition of Great Domesday Book' produced in 1986 (90th year anniversary) by Editions Alecto (Domesday) Ltd; dedicated by Gracious Permission to Her Majesty the Queen and comprising two main vellum and oak hardbound editions, together with a Great Domesday Introduction and Contents of the Manuscript. Volume One contains an original silver penny of William the Conqueror current at the times when the Domesday Book was written in 1086, the Introduction hardback detailing almost all the 250 coins acquired for the 'Penny Edition of Great Domesday Book' different legends of the reverse, this 'PAXS' issue was struck was stuck by two hundred moneyers operating from 64 Mints and in most cases several dyes were used by each moneyer and the reverse legends were differently spelt. This particular coin in this 'Penny Edition' was struck at Wareham by the moneyer AE Gelvic and the reverse legend reads 'IEGELRIC ON PERE', the opposing 1986 bronze penny of HM Elizabeth II is a proof specimen struck from specially polished dyes at the Royal Mint. The books within a reinforced and bound fitted hard cases and together with further, accompaniments to include separate hardback 'Domesday Book Studies', large hard cases containing 'Great Domesday Maps' and Great Domesday Indices', together with two further hardback volumes 'Great Domesday Translation Folios 0-202' and 'Great Domesday Folios 203-382' and one final Domesday book envelope containing the translations of the 'Penny Edition of 'In celebration of 900th anniversary of the making of the Domesday Book', the 'Penny Edition of The Domesday Book a Prospectus', other relevant documentation and associated ephemera etc. (excellent condition)

A 19th century Chinese "Canton" fan, with mock filigree, enamelled and parcel-gilt bronze guards with a dragon motif and fretted and stained ivory, mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, sandalwood and sticks. The paper leaf is painted recto and verso in lacquer colours with figures in terraced pavilions with applied ivory face details. Housed in a shaped and fitted black lacquer case painted with oriental garden scenes.Condition report: The fan has had some repair to the sticks as they extend under the leaf section but to what extent I can say because the stick is hidden by the leaf in this location.I can see one ivory stick is loose (see images)The applied dragon on the guards is damaged but we do have a piece of the dragon that is missingOne guard seems to have had a solder repair where it enters the leaf (see images)The leaf is in comparatively good order but shows some old repairs and minor tears (see images for extra sizes and details)
