A 19th century neo-classical bronze ewer, decorated with winged cherubs holding classical reserves within foliage, below a long waisted neck with a female classical mask and serpentine rim, the bifurcated scroll handle with coiled dragon, on a gadrooned knopped pedestal base with incuse square base, 21¼in. (54cm.) high.* Condition: No damage or repairs. In good condition.

A rare antique Indian figural opium pipe, the figural bronze chamber depicting a deity with mask headdress, carrying a sword in his right hand and a writing implement in his left, the bronze slide-over stem heavily embossed with foliate decoration, the deity standing 4½in. (11.4cm.).

Vincenzo Gemito (Italian, 1852-1929), early 20th century, a bronze kneeling figure of a fishing boy clutching his catch, on a rocky outcrop, 'Pescatorello con canna', mid-brown patination, signed 'GEMITO PROPRIET ARTISTICA', mounted on a circular bronze socle, 9½in. (24.1cm.) high.* Condition: Some light scratching to top surface of base. Otherwise good. Fishing rod is complete but loose in its mounting and the inserted end is slightly bent.

A 19th century patinated bronze twin handled urn, the gadrooned, everted rim over a body of compressed globular form with twin upswept handles, both sides with classical mask and twin rampant lion decoration, on a pedestal foot with egg and dart border, on a square plinth base with ogee feet, 10½in. (26.5cm.) wide between handles, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high.* Condition: No noticeable damage, the only imperfection being a deposit of limescale over the inner metal lining of the piece. Good patina.

Herbert Gustave Schmalz (English, 1856-1935), Still life of red roses in a Chinese bronze censer , oil on canvas, signed 'ANGELICO' upper left, in original giltwood and composition cavetto frame 19½ x 23¼in. (49.5 x 59cm.) .* Herbert Gustave Schmalz also worked under the pseudonym Angelico and was counted amongst the Pre-Raphaelites. He lived in the Kensington area of London and was friends with William Holman Hunt and Frederic Leighton. He named himself Herbert Gustave Carmichael in 1918 to avoid the anti-German sentiment prevalent at the time.** Condition: Small split and bluge to canvas to upper left corner (approx. 3in. below signature). Painting is dirty and would benefit from a clean. A small spot of scratching to the paint surface just below left handle of censer and rose immediately above the handle has some bitumenisation to the dark red areas of shadow. Tiny hole to surface of canvas at lower right. Some losses to outer edge of frame and repainting in gold along top edge and corners.Examined under UV - a few possible retouches to background to right of signature but nothing else visible.

(26cm.) high overall.* Condition: Some green surface tarnish spots to bronze to face. Small hole drilled to centre of neck at back. Some chips to edges of marble base. Bronze detached from the base.

Ernest Justin Ferrand (1846-1932) - a small bronze figure of a pixie, mid-brown patination, seated upon an open book, signed 'Ferrand', 3¾in. (9.5cm.) long; together with a similar bronze of a recumbent child with a bird, 4¾in. (12cm.) long. (2)* Condition: - Ferrand: Minor rubbing to patination to raised edges. Otherwise good.- Other: Threaded mounting hole to base (probably originally on a marble base). Some wear to patination to edges, arms and legs. No other faults.

A Chinese bronze hanging lantern, first half 20th century, the spherical openwork body forming swirling clouds around inner candle chamber, character mark design to hinged door with spinning latch, topped by flattened bell form with cloud finials around its circumference, with later bronze cap and chain, 10½in. (27cm.) main lantern height. (2)

A Chinese bronze dragon, probably originally a handle, with silver metal inlaid scale decoration, 6¼in. (15.8cm.) long; together with a 19th century Chinese porcelain famille verte snuff bottle, decorated with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl above a tumultuous sea, the neck with lemon yellow lingi pendant and Greek key borders, with iron red painted seal mark, 3in. (7.5cm.) high, chips to shoulder. (2)* Condition: - Bronze dragon: Two screw thread holes to front of body, so probably original a handle from a large vase or jardiniere. Has a good patina overall and has not been polished - there are two patches of wear to the patination & silver inlay to the sides of the dragon's upper body. Two small paint splash marks to tail and a little verdigris between scales on back. No damage to bronze. - Snuff bottle: two large flakes from glaze to shoulder of bottle and two other large flakes which have old touched in painting to the shoulder. Lacks stopper. No other faults - enamelled decoration in good condition.

A Continental gilt copper box, late 18th / early 19th century, oval form, the cover depicting a Nereid on a sea bull within ribbon scroll border, the sides with figural scenes including Bacchus, 3¼ x 2 5/8in. (8.25 x 6.7cm.); together with a bronze miniature covered urn, with mid-brown patination and eagle surmount, 5in. (12.7cm.) high. (2)* Condition: - Box: Some wear to gilt throughout, most notably to cover, showing copper beneath. Small indent to top edge of box and probable rectangular soldered repair to underside.- Urn: Good condition. Probably originally on a marble or similar base, as there are threaded holes to each corner of pedestal.

A gilt bronze medallion of 40mm diameter, Ludovicus Magnus Rex Christianissimus obverse. Ludovicus XV D G Fr et Nav Rex, reverse, lacking its suspender. (2)

MEDALS GT/WAR & WW11 TO A R N - RNR OFFICER. A 1914/15 Star, British War & Victory Medals, named to M.6121 S G H Leyh 2. Wtr R N . Unnamed W W 11 Medals are the 1939/45 and Pacific Stars, Defence & War Medals. A cased 1938 dated Royal Naval Reserve Decoration, on its original plain green ribbon. Medal ribbon bars (3 rows) are full size, BEM, 1914/15 Star & Rosette, Bwm & Victory medals. 1937 Coronation Medal and RNR Decoration, with white edges on the ribbon (Correct for after 1941). The miniature bar is as the fullsize set, except in only (2 rows). Stanley George Hoare Leyh rose from 2nd writer to A/Chief Writer by the time he was awarded a BEM in December 1918. (Party per sec Allied Naval Council) L G 31/12/1918. The King has been pleased to confer the Medal (BEM) of the Most Excellent Order of The British Empire, upon the under-mentioned for Services in connection with the War. A/Ch Wtr S G H Leyh. In the 1930 Navy List he is a P Lieutenant R N R. Family providence states he was one of the last people out on a ship, from Hong Kong. It was during this retreat he was to save the life of the Tiger Balm King Later service was with the Royal Australian Navy, he never returned to Great Britain. Presumably he took part in the 1937 Coronation, whereby he was awarded the medal. The medal listing appears to show that he reapplied in 1948, for his Gt War Medals. It is also known he left at the last instance before the Japanese invaded, probably leaving his BEM and other medals behind. Again by family provenance he filled his car with all his valuable, and pushed it into the harbour during the final hours. The list is quite long, from officers requesting the same re-issues. He retired with the rank of Commander. A related African Safari Club medallion of New York , Presented to HIH Prince Abdorreza Pahlavi. April 29th 1971. 50mm in a bronze finish. Hunting World Inc. New York on the rim. With a copied photograph of him, wearing his medal ribbons.

EWSporting Medals. MOTORCYCLING MEDALS WON BY THE LEGENDARY JOSEPH S WRIGHT. A quantity of medals won by the holder of multiple World Records in the 1920's-30's period, many at Brooklands. He held at one time the Brooklands Record Laps for 1925-110.43 mph. 1926-27-28 Laps of 113.45 mph. 1929- 30 118.86 mph. Hill Climbs and other race meetings were also undertaken, often in the 350cc Class. At one time he also held the Fastest Race Ever on any track, record: 3 Laps of Brooklands at an average of 111.4 mph. At Montherly France, the Lap Record at 138 mph, the fastest speed at that time ever accomplished on a race track. World Record at 5 Kilometres, at 132 mph. World Record at 5 Miles at 130 mph. World Record at 50 Miles and 100 Kilometres, solo at over 112 mph. World Record Sidecar and Passenger over 5 Miles and 50 Kilometres of 104 mph. W R at 99 mph for Sidecar and Passenger at 10 Miles and at 16 Kilometres. BARC numbered badges for 1925-1927-28-29-30, 1931-33- & 1934. 1 Silver & 4 bronze Brooklands prize Medals. Essex also West Kent etc prize medallions, (26 in total). Medal bars etc. 3 x Sydenham & District Motor Club medallions, named to G Wright. With a copied photograph of Joe Wright on his J A P V Twin, and record details.

Also a related bronze Hampshire County Council Education Committee medal, with a silver darts award, M V D L 1938-39 engraved sports medal . It is quite likely that Edgar Chant was involved in the Blitz on Southampton, during WW11. With the group is a bar with Fire and Defence medal ribbons, for wear.
