A nineteenth century gilt, bronze and marble inkwell. The domed cover with a tooth border surmounted with a winged cherub and holding a quiver, the classical fluted urn with lion's mask terminals enclosing a 4cm diameter inkwell aperture raised upon three lion's paw feet supported on a circular and black marble stepped base. 16cm (illustrated).

A pair of early nineteenth century gilt brass table candlesticks. Each with vase shape wax pans raised upon fluted columns, fluted tapering plinth bases, 31cm, a nineteenth century gilt bronze model of a cavalry officer on horseback raised upon a stepped plinth with lion's mask supports 22.5x16x7.5cm (3).

A fine early 19th Century bronze Gothic revival mantel clock With a 18cm convex silvered dial with Roman numerals, blued Gothic hands within a brass convex glazed bezel the twin chain fusee bell striking movement with anchor escapement with rise and fall to the lenticular bob pendulum, H shape brass back plate, the Gothic revival case with swan neck pediments above leaf cast cluster columns embracing leaf and flower head panels divided by fluted arches, the sides with similar fluted and foliate decoration, glazed lancet shaped rear door raised upon a rectangular plinth base and four scrolling leafy feet with a substantial pendulum, later winding key and an original side door key. Lot 2139

A nineteenth century gilt brass and bronze bell shape table clock. With a 9cm dial with white enamel cartouches with Roman numerals, the two-train movement striking on a coiled gong contained within an unusual bell shape case with leaf, fruit and figure cast borders and Latin inscriptions including Spiritu Tuo, raised upon tupi feet the shaped top with a classical sphere supported at either side with crossed spears, each with winged bird terminals and crosses raised upon a shaped octagonal ebonised plinth. The clock measures 35cm with a key and pendulum.

A SMALL BRONZE LOTA Central India, 18th century of bulbous form, on splayed rim foot, the sides with dense fluting, a scrolling leaf or feather border above, the short neck with ropework ridge 12cm high Provenance Private collection Germany, acquired 1960-66 in India by the vendor while working in development assistance. Zebrowski publishes two vessels with similar narrow fluting, which he attributes to Central India, as one is known to have come from Devas in Madhya Pradesh. See Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India, London 1997, pp.213 & 216. Condition: Patina somewhat overpolished, minor knocks etc.

The goddess Durga seems here to be assimilated with the river goddess Yamuna, whose vehicle is the turtle. Condition: Some wear, joint slightly loose

A JAIN BRONZE FIGURE OF A TIRTHANKARA Western India, 15th-16th century standing in kayotsarga, the nude figure male figure with parasol over his head, a column on his left with remains of a small seated jina, a pair of lotus buds issuing from the ground below 34cm high Provenance London art market, circa 1990. This fragment originally formed part of a very large brass shrine or altarpiece. For a complete shrine of similar scale in the Norton Simon Museum, see Pratapaditya Pal, The Peaceful Liberators: Jain Art from India, Los Angeles 1994, no.37, p.150. The standing Jinas adjacent to the main image are almost identical to the figure in our fragment. Condition: Fragmentary condition with damaged edges, parasol and base bent, column slightly bent. Main figure mostly good.
