Light rubbing to raised areas on the portrait and coat of arms from handling. Several casting imperfections to rim and some tiny dings to edges. Light, patchy bronze toning to the gold to the portrait's forehead and top of reverse side.

A Chinese bronze sword, Han Dynasty (206 BC- 220 AD), cast with a disc rim forming the pommel, the hollow hilt with two raised bands, the guard decorated with taotie mask, the blade formed with scrolling and linear decoration to both sides of the median ridge, 34.6cm longA restored chip to the pommel. A repair where the hilt joins the blade above the guard. Surface marks throughout.

In gilt bronze, most likely from the casting of the model brought to Seville by the silversmith Franconio. Related works: another Christ of the same design kept in the Royal Palace of Oriente (Madrid), another kept in the Cathedral of Seville and a model of the same design in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Measurements: 27 cm (hand to to toe), 22 cm (head to toe), 22 cm (index finger to index finger) and 5 cm deep. Provenance: Property of an important Madrid private collection, Spain. Note: lot 411 has export permit from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
