When Cartier set up their design studio in 1906 in Rue de la Paix, Paris, Alfred Cartier purchased a number of religious medallions made by Frederic de Vernon and produced by Felix du Val. This may be one such example. The most famous of his works is a thimble offered to Queen Wilhelmine by President Kruger of South Africa for her wedding.
