Lot 17

A rare 18th century German gilt bronze chamberlain's key, the pierced bow with a crown surmount with an orb finial above a monogram and flanked by lions above a cartouche centred with a coat of arms, 18.5cm long. See Henry Rene D'Allemagne, Deocorative Antique Ironwork, p.90 for an almost identical example. The holder was an archbishop and Elector from "Kur-Trier". Trier is a city in Germany. A late 19th century French brass repeating carriage clock, the eight day movement with a lever escapement and striking on a gong, the backplate stamped 'PATENT SURETY POLLER' and 'G. L.', with a silvered dial with Roman numerals, in a chinoiserie pagoda case with bamboo columns, the dial surround decorated with mixed metals depicting a landscape scene with a Chinese figure and a house with flowers and leaves, the side panels in gilt bronze with figures hunting, the other with three figures kiting, 17.6cm high (handle down).

Pierre-Jules Mene (French 1810-1879). A 19th century bronze of two whippets at play with a ball, the oval base signed 'P. J. Mene', 15.5cm high, 21cm wide. The plaster model was exhibited in the Salon in 1848 and it was No. 93 in Mene's catalogue, the whippets are called Gigi and Gisella.
