Jonathan Macallan Swan (1847-1910) St John the Baptist, standing with arms raised, on rocky base, silver metal, signed and dated 1899. 64cm high Provenance; Jesmond Towers, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where it is listed in an inventory of 1926 in the Billiard Room as 'A bronze figure of a boy'. Literature; Leighton and his Sculptural Legacy: British Sculpture 1875-1930 exhibition catalogue item 28, Joanna Barnes Fine Arts, Duke Street, London 1996. There is a variant of this figure in the Perth Art Gallery.

A matched set of four French 18th century bronze carronades, each barrel 36inches long, born on decayed timber carriages; together with a framed inscription These four Guns/were on the poop of the Medee/French frigate August 5th 1800 when/captured by the Bombay Castle/EICS Captain John Hamilton of Sundrum and the log book of the Bombay Castle's journey to China and back in 1800-1801 with the account of La Medee's capture (6) Provenance: Sundrum Castle, Ayr These carronades sat outside Sundrum Castle, and can be seen in this photograph of the daughters of the house, which includes Hope, who inherited them, at the far left. The account of their capture by the Bombay Castle, whose Captain was John Hamilton II of Sundrum, reads as follows: Monday August 4th At 1/2 past 6am the Neptune made the signal for seeing 4 strange sail bearing NW. At 8 the Comr. made the signal "Know the Dorsetshires opinion of the strangers" who ans'd. "Suspicious". At 5' past, he made the signal "to know ours" Ans'd "Suspicious". At1/2 past 8 he made the signal for Ships to windward to bear down. At 9 the general signal to chace ships in view & to denote our opinion of them & their motions by appro. private signal & be careful not to part Company. At 1/2 past 9 signal to make all possible sail. At 1/2 past 10 to prepare to ingage . At 10' before 11 our signal to carry all possible sail. At 5' before 11 Do. to the Exeter. At 11Do. to the Coutts, Neptune & Dorsetshire. 5th August A moderate Breeze and pleasant weather throt. At 1/4 past 1 Pell. we made the signal we thought, the Chace were Spaniards. At 50' past 2 the Comr. made our signal to chace NW & for the Coutts, to chace N. At 20' before 4 the Comr. fired a Gun & hoisted his pendant.

5 various metal desk models of WWII aircraft: P38 Lightning mounted on an ashtray in the form of a map of Australia, engraved with a kangaroo, names of various places, and 3 sets of initials, the aircraft engraved "Sydney, Australia, South Pacific 1949"; brass Mosquito on circular base; 2 brass Spitfires; and an aluminium Spitfire; also a pair of bronze desk ornaments mounted with stylised early jet aircraft; and a stylized twin engined aircraft of wood and metal construction, mounted on wooden ashtray base. GWO & C (stock fractured at locks and badly repaired, ramrod swivel missing, refinished overall)
