It belongs to a larger tradition of metal bodhisattva icons made in western and central Tibetan workshops under both Kashmiri and Indian Pala dynasty influences. The inlaid silver for the eyes and copper for the lips, and the jewelry details, reflect Tibetan responses to Pala models. Bronze China , Dali Kingdom (937 - 1253)Dimensions: Height 20 cm Wide 8 cm Depth 6 cmWeight: 792 gramsA rare and unusual Chinese Ming Dynasty bronze figure of the Buddha as an infant. The young Prince Siddhartha, who would grow up to become the Buddha, is portrayed standing, one hand pointing to the sky, the other to the ground. He is naked, save for a baby apron decorated with a lotus pattern, one of the symbols of Buddhism. In this depiction, he stands upon a rocky outcrop, a dragon rising up to shower him with water. Remnants of gilding throughout.This figure of the Buddha represents an event just after his birth in the Lumbini Grove, where he sprang from Queen Maya's side, able to talk and walk. His first action was to point one hand towards the sky, the other towards the earth, and proclaim: "As in the Heavens above, and the Earth below, I alone am the World Honored One. All that exists in the Three Worlds is suffering, but I will bring comfort." Upon this proclamation, the infant Buddha and his mother, Queen Maya, were showered with fragrant blossoms, and streams of pure water.Figures of the Infant Buddha are often venerated on the Buddha's birthday, where they are showered with purified water.

Hajagriva can be translated as "The horse-necked one" which explains the horse head above his head encircled by an elaborate skull crown. This wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara is kneeling on one knee and holding his hands in front of the chest. One hand is holding a ritual staff called khatvanga, the other is facing the palm upwards to the sky. The big belly is ornamented with necklaces, a short dhoti covering his lower body. The face is lifted upwards with a fierce expression. A scowling face with wide-open mouth exposing the fangs, a broad nose and bulging eyes show this deity's determination to help humans overcome egotism and ignorance.
