A GOOD SMALL CHINESE BRONZE HEAD OF BUDDHA, possibly 16th Century, the whole with traces of gilding and red lacquer, supported on a wood plinth, 4.5in high overall, the head itself 2.5in high; together with a small Thai bronze head of Buddha, similarly with traces of gilding and red lacquer, also possibly 16th Century, supported on a Perspex plinth, 5in high overall, the head itself 3.3in high. Attributed to Frederick Bouttats the Younger (Dutch, 1643-1676) Orpheus charming the animals oil on panel 76 x 100cm (30 x 39in) Provenance: From an Oxfordshire country house. The present painting depicts the mythological hero Orpheus charming animals with his singing and playing. Panel constructed of four boards in horizontal alignment, fabric canvas attached to reverse for support. Original panel joins are sound but there are two large splits in panel running horizontally. Paint layer in good condition, with a few small losses. Retouching along splits. Old yellowed varnish. Frame - bronze paint has been applied over original gilding.
After Nikolai Lieberich (Russian, 19th Century) A Russian bronze model of a wolf caught in a trap, signed in Cyrillic and dated 1861, without foundry mark, patination "polished" in places, 20.3cm wide x 15cm high (8 x 6in) For a very similar model, see the exhibition of Nikolai Lieberich's work held at The Russian Museum, St Michael's Castle, St Petersburg, Russia in 2013. Patination possibly polished away in many place, but the definition is good.
Richard Claude Belt (1851-1920), a bronze bust of Lord Kitchener together with other memorabilia from the estate of Sir Arthur Renshaw, the memorial bust carved after Lord Kitchener was lost at sea in 1916, inscribed 'No. 1 Reduction of Bust in War Office' and signed, on stepped black marble plinth, the bust 37cm (14.5 in high), Duffus Bros, Johannesburg, signed photograph in leather frame, 20 x 12cm (8 x 4.75 in), a spear from the battle field of Omdurman, 212cm (83.5 in) long, a leather bound coronation record of the Coronation of George V, a photograph of Captain Thomas Renshaw, a 1917 penny and a cased 1902 silver coronation spoon (7) Provenance: Sir Arthur Renshaw (1851-1912) of Watlington Park, Oxfordshire, looked after Lord Kitchener's investments and was a co-signatory to his will. Renshaw's son, Thomas (1899-1984) was Kitchener's godson and page at the coronation of George V in 1911
Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), a glass and bronze dore centrepiece, the two glass tiers with serrated galleries and with strawberry cut diamond diaper, a ring handle above the smaller upper tier supported on the heads of boys on one knee holding swags of flowers to their chests, the lower tier above a foliate band, anthemions above the three paw feet, the circular base inscribed 'Thomire a Paris', 35cm (13.75 in) high The glass is in good condition
