A Chinese mottled grey-green jade cong Shang Dynasty The pale grey-green stone with dark brown inclusions of near square section with rounded corners, the centre cylindrical with raised flat rings to the top and bottom, with later hardwood stand and cover. 5cm across FOOTNOTE: Although the exact nature of the cong as a ritual object is unknown, it is thought that the form represents the earth, as bi discs represent the heavens, and thus they are often found at burial sites. The shape recurs throughout Chinese applied arts and can be found in bronze, cloisonne enamel, pottery and porcelain. A near identical jade cong to the present lot can be found in the collection of the British Museum, London, ref.1914,0513.5PROVENANCE: The John Laycock Collection, thence by descent to the vendor. A Chinese bronze ceremonial bell, Nao Shang Dynasty (1600-1027 BC) Of cup form with scooped rim and raised on a tapering handle, the body cast with Taoist masks to each side. 15cm high FOOTNOTE: Ceremonial bells of this type were assembled in graduated groups of three or five, the small ones hand-held and played facing upwards, the larger ones suspended from a frame. A near identical Shang Dynasty bell can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, ref.49.136.10. WW2 Highland Light Infantry Officers Service Dress Uniform, consisting of highland doublet service dress with brass regimental officers tunic buttons to the front, pockets and shoulder boards. Bronze OSD regimental collar badges. Gilt metal majors rank crown to each shoulder, evidence of where he has at one point been lower ranks. Complete with its belt and matching service dress trousers. The tunic cuffs have been fitted with leather and some areas of period repair. Good worn uniform.

Rare Dutch VNV Black Brigade Tollenaere Honour Badge, bronze grade award with the Dutch wolf’s hook symbol with “TROUW” in a tablet to the centre, sword diagonally through the middle and circlet with Flemish “AANR. TOLLENAERE KOPZY JAN. 1942”. Two loop fittings to the reverse of the award. This award was produced to commemorate the death of VNV Black Brigade leader Dr Reimond Tollenaere who was killed in action at Kopzy, near Leningrad on 22nd January 1942. VNV Black Brigade members were awarded this badge for loyalty and sacrifice.
WW2 Polish Monte Cassino Cross Warrant Officer Class 2 Antoni Wielebski 13th Wilenski Rifle Battalion 5th Kresowa Infantry Division, the bronze cross is numbered to the reverse “16 093”. Complete with its original ribbon. Medal comes with typed research from the vendor stating the following; “Antoni Wielebski (1900-1951) served in the wars to establish Poland’s borders 1918-21. Afterwards he continued in the army, by the outbreak of war in 1939 he was an NCO in the regular army. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets and forced to endure captivity in the USSR. Following his release from captivity by the Soviets, he joined the 13th Infantry regiment of the Polish Army. In 1941 he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer class 2. The regiment was re-titled 13th Wilenski Rifle Battalion and he served with this regiment throughout the campaign in the Middle East and Italy. He was in command of the Signals section of his battalions HQ company. On 12th and 17th May 1944, during the battle of Monte Cassino, he was awarded the Cross of Valour for his gallantry in command of his section and in maintaining and repairing lines under heavy artillery and mortar fire. During 1945 he was awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit with Swords. Wielebski settled in the UK after the war and died in Oxfordshire aged 51 in 1951.
WW2 Polish Cross of Merit and Monte Cassino Medal Group of Eight Awarded to Corporal Eugeniusz Baude No 1 General Hospital 2nd Polish Corps, group consists of cast bronze Polish Cross of Merit award with swords, Polish Armed Forces medal, Monte Cassino cross numbered to the reverse “42 374”, 1939-45 star, Africa star, Italy star, Defence medal and 1939-45 War medal. With the medals is his original identity bracelet with his details stamped. Medals and ID chain mounted onto black felt display. Medals come with typed paperwork research supplied by the vendor which gives the following details, “Eugeniusz Baude (1899-1973) escaped from Poland after the September 1939 campaign and enlisted in the Polish Army under French command – most probably in French controlled Lebanon. Although he went onto serve in North Africa, he did not do so as a member of the Polish Carpathian Brigade. Corporal Baude then took part in the Italian campaign and in April 1945 was with No1 General Hospital. He had already received the Polish Cross of Merit with Swords for his services during this campaign. He settled on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire after the war and died there in 1973.
Fine Early Victorian Model of a Ships Cannon, bronze barrel of conventional form with turned reinforces, swollen muzzle, raised vent and turned cascabel; on its fruitwood stepped naval carriage with wooden wheels and brass fittings. Barrel 16.5cms. Fine condition with excellent age patina overall.
18th Century Model of a Ships Cannon, bronze barrel with turned reinforces, swollen muzzle, the second reinforce engraved with owner’s initials D.C. entwined, bulbous cascabel, on its stepped fruitwood carriage with iron cap squares and fittings and 4 fruitwood wheels. Barrel 24cms, overall 28.5cms. Good condition and age patina.
