A BRONZE SALUTING CANNON BY BUTTALL, MID-18TH CENTURY, LONDON, with tapering multi-stage barrel belled at the muzzle and engraved with the Prince of Wales` feather`s, engraved `H+M` on the second reinforce, struck with London view and proof marks, the maker`s mark, and impressed `Buttall Minories` on the first reinforce, a pair of plain trunnions, raised vent field, moulded base ring and globose cascable, in rich brown patinated condition: on a later wooden stand 27.5cm; 10 3/4in barrel 2.3cm; 7/8in boreJonathon Buttall, a gunmaker, is recorded as an apprentice in the Founders` Company circa 1741-8. He also supplied brass furniture for small arms to the Ordnance.
