An impressive and substantial pair of English bronze doors, mid 20th century, each leaf cast with five convex raised roundels, set into square panels linked with a geometric moulding, 291cm high, 202cm wide. Provenance: New Change, City of London. New Change, the building directly to the east of St. Paul’s Cathedral, was built after World War II replacing the bombed out street ‘Old Change’. The name derives from a 13th century building on the site that was used for the receipt of bullion to be coined. New Change, before the demolition that is currently underway, was a capacious office and retail block - brick built in the early 1950’s with carved stonework by Sir Charles Wheeler and others. Wheeler created the bronze doors for the Bank of England before the war and those for the Lombard Street headquarters of Barclays afterwards, so these doors were to his design.
A French Empire period gilt bronze portico clock by Faizan of Paris, the whole surmounted with single allegorical putti above a signed convex white enamel dial, having twin winding holes for an eight day brass movement with outside countwheel, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the whole raised on four ring turned columns to a platform undertier, h.53cm, sold with glass dome and on ebonised wooden plinth, dome with no apparent faults

CLASSICAL STYLE BRONZE SCULPTURE, H 10", W 7", `MARS, THE ROMAN GOD OF WAR`: Modeled after the antique statue found in the Roman Villa Ludovisi, Mars is depicted seated with a sword in his hand, his foot resting atop a helmet, a shield at his side, and Cupid at his feet. Bélière montée sur rotule (elle était attachée à l’intérieur du carrosse) et fond clippé. Cadran signé «CAISSO & Cie - Place de la Madeleine». Mouvement : Calibre mécanique à cylindre n° 628 signé R A.Diam. 10.3 Cm (pendule) - 5,7 cm (montre). État : Bon état (Fonctionne) (Écrin de voyage en cuir d’époque).
