AFTER GIAMBOLOGNA "The Fowler" or bird catcher, bronze, on a plinth base, together with a bronze figural candlestick as a cherub holding aloft a flower and a pair of carved and painted wooden flower models CONDITION REPORTS The fowler: missing a piece from his right hand, has pitting, there is a knock to the "lamp cage". The candle stick: the cherub has been off and re-soldered at an angle, there is pitting, part of its wing is off and missing. Both items in need of a clean, and have wear and tear conducive to age and use . Flowers unknown if complete, have general wear and tear. Large statue has some wear to the shovel, small chip, item to his right hand is missing. Wooden plinth looks new. Various marks and scratches. Smaller statue - repair to foot and base, various signs of repairs throughout, dents, marks, scratches.
Elegante Dame am Tisch Sitzend, an important bronze after the original by Bernhard Hoetger, (German, 1874-1949), the patinated bronze depicting an elegant lady sitting to take tea, signed in the bronze 25 x 43 x 30cm (10 x 17 x 12in) Other Notes: Bernhard Hoetger was born in 1874 in Dortmund Germany. A sculptor and painter, he was a follower of the Expressionist movement which emerged from Germany at the turn of the 20th century. Expressionist artists often employed swirling, swaying lines as a means of conveying their emotions and reaction to the modern world; art was deemed to come from within the artist rather than a depiction of the external world. Hoetger was inspired by the works of Rodin, having travelled to Paris in 1900 to view the Exposition Universelle. He died in Switzerland in 1949.
§ Fritz Klimsch (German, 1870-1960) a bronze figure of a seated nude, signed in the bronze 27 x 40cm (11 x 16in) In good condition, almost certainly a later casting with no foundry marks. There are a few light scratches and some wear to patina, particularly to her raised knee and nose. There is also a little pitting to her back and shoulders.
After Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, (Swiss, 1859–1923), a bronze model of a cat, modelled seated, signed in the bronze, mounted on a red variegated marble plinth base 18cm (7in) Other Notes: Steinlen was responsible for the famous 1896 poster advertising a tour to other cities ("coming soon") of the Le Chat Noir's troupe of cabaret entertainers
Accordeoniste', a bronze model after the original by Jan and Joël Martel, French (1896-1966), the silvered bronze model depicting a stylised Breton accordionist 37 x 18 x 16½cm (14 x 7 x 6in) Other Notes: Jan and Joel Martel were avant-garde sculptors born in Nantes, France in 1896. The twin brothers shared a workshop and were well-known for their sculptures and statues which were strongly influenced by the Art Deco and Cubist movements. The Accordionist, created c.1925, was a favourite theme of the Martel brothers and modelled in bronze, terracotta and stoneware. One of their best known monuments is the "Monument to Claude Debussy" on the Boulevard Lannes in Paris. They died within six months of each other in 1966.
