Note of provenance attached reading ' Purchased this Crucifix from a Belgian in Mons a few days after the Armistice of 11 November 1918. He had buried it in his garden in August 1914 to prevent it falling into the hands of the Germans who were looting all brassware for the manufacture of munitions. Repair to verso. Measures approx; 33cm tall.
