A Chinese bronze censer, late Ming/early Qing dynasty, of plain round form with two flared loop handles, and on three stilt feet, apocryphal sunken relief cast Kaishu mark, dating the censer to the fifth year of the Xuande period (1430) made for the Board of Works, under the Supervision of Wu Pang-Tso, 13cm diameter Note: See Sydney L. J.C. Cailly, Paris, a bronze and ormolu mantel clock having an eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with an outside countwheel and silk suspension, the silvered dial having black Roman numerals and blued steel moon hands, the bronze case in the form of a rocky outcrop, with a figure of a minstrel playing a lute seated above, the base with an ormolu acanthus leaf moulded decoration to the edge and an applied classical moulding to the front, all standing on decorative winged feet, height: 38.5cm. * J.C. Cailly is recorded as working in Paris circa 1840.
