NIJINSKY VASLAV: (1889-1950) Russian Ballet Dancer. A large 14 x 21 etching by artist Malvina Hoffman depicting a male dancer in a full length pose playing a mandolin. Signed (`Waslaw Nijinsky`) by Nijinsky with a large fountain pen ink signature to the lower mount and dated 1916 in his hand. Also signed in pencil by Malvina Hoffman directly below the image. Rare. Some light, minor staining and age wear to the extreme lower edge, only very slightly affecting the date but not the signature. Otherwise VG Malvina Hoffman (1885-1966) American Sculptor, known for her life-size bronze sculptures of people. Dancers formed a large part of Hoffman`s early work, her subjects including Anna Pavlova, although she continued to sculpt dancers throughout her career.

The obverse depicts the figure of peace caressing a shield embossed with a portrait of Lord Nelson. The reverse is decorated with a scene of the British Fleet at Aboukir Bay. The edge bears an inscription from Alexander Davison. Two holes drilled at 12 o`clock for suspension. Together with four identical copper medallions struck from the metal of the ship Foudroyant, the obverse with a portrait of Nelson and the reverse with a view of the ship, and also including a centenary version of the Boulton Trafalgar Medal, 1905, with a portrait of Nelson by Catherine Andras, etc. G, 7
BOXING: An 8vo exercise book containing over signatures by various boxers including Peter Jorgensen (Bronze Olympic medallist, 1932), Alan Carlsson (Bronze Olympic medallist, 1932), Walter Kolzhorn, Claude Bassin, Thor Aulin, Egon Pedersen and various other Swedish, Norwegian and Danish boxers, some German athletes etc. of the 1930s. Many of the signatures are in pencil and most have neatly attached magazine and newspaper photographs and ink annotations in the hand of the collector.
