Two bronze busts of classical female figures, a circular bronze plaque cast with figures beneath arches, the reverse with a paper label inscribed `the Adams Collection 214 Bonhams` and a parcel gilt steel plaque depicting the bust of a warrior, 10.5cm max. (4) Provenance: the Ernest Ohly collection.
Cecil Eric Britten Best (1882-1973) Lots 1050-1057 form part of the collection given to Cecil Best when he lived in Rio de Janeiro by Herbert Edward Inman, a Lloyds marine engineer, who had been in the employment of the Egyptian Government between 1910-1912. The government had been unable to pay Mr Inman so they gave him items recovered from tombs in Lower Egypt. Since Mr Best`s death, the collection has been on loan to Southampton Museum. Eleven Egyptian bronze or copper alloy figures, including Isis and Horus, most with losses, all with verdi gris, 14.5cm max. (11) Provenance: the Cecil Eric Britten Best collection, (1882-1973).
A Victorian black and rougé marble mantel clock, with bronze Apollo mount, the 4 inch dial with ring of Roman numerals and twin winding holes, marked `Paris` and bearing Elkington and Co. retailer`s mark, the case of aesthetic design with bronze classical side mounts, the eight day spring driven movement stamped `B.R 178 38012`, striking on a single bell, the bronze bust of Apollo unsigned, 47cm high overall, 33cm wide, 17cm deep
A Russian silver and parcel gilt circular box and cover, circa 1782, commemorating the equestrian statue of Peter the Great in St. Petersburg, the cover with central gilt panel decorated in relief with the Bronze Horseman, the underside of cover with a relief bust portrait of Catherine the Great, framed by engraved borders, repeated on the base, `FW` maker`s mark in Latin script to interior and indistinct town mark, possibly Kostroma, diameter approx 8.5cm. Note: Catherine the Great ordered the construction of the equestrian statue of Peter the Great by Etienne Maurice Falconet, which was unveiled on August 9th 1782; it is situated in the Senate Square in Saint Petersburg.
Joseph Lorenzl - an Art Deco silvered cast bronze figure of a young woman, nude but for high heeled shoes, cast `R.Lor, Austria` to one shoe, raised on an onyx pedestal, height approx 15cm, together with another Art Deco cast bronze figure of a nude young woman, on a circular base with indistinct cast signature, height approx 15cm, with a shaped onyx pedestal (detached).
An late 19th century black slate mantle clock of architectural form, the stepped roof supported by flanking columns and surmounted by a large shallow footed bowl and mounted overall with ornate gilt metal and bronze mounts including two caryatid swing handles, scrolled side columns and outswept scrolled and foliate moulded supports, the eight day movement striking on a bell with a plain black slate dial, inscribed Roman numerals and bevelled glass (44cms high, as viewed some slight damage).
