A pair of French gilt metal nine light wall appliques in Louis XV style, late 19th century, the scrolling acanthus branches issuing from rocaille cast backplates each centred by a seated putto holding wine goblets and grapes respectively, approx. 60cm x 56cm x 38cm Please note: these wall appliques are gilt metal, not gilt bronze as stated in the printed catalogue Condition Report: The wall lights bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The gilding is a little rubbed and worn in places, and it is quite inconsistent, suggesting parts may have been re-gilt. One of the arms has broken off, but is present. Another has been repaired (circa 2cm across the top). One of the sconces has a vertical crack, and there is some further shorter cracking throughout the thinner elements and foliage. A substantial gilt bronze twenty-five light chandelier in Louis XV taste, circa 1900, the arms arranged in two tiers surrounding a frame cast with rocaille, foliage and putti overall, approximately 100cm high, circa 107cm wideCondition Report: Marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use, and the gilt surface is a little pitted and rubbed overall. One putto has a drilled circular aperture to the rear, this putto is also no longer holding his foliate bell, which is sold with the lot and can presumably be easily reattached. The finger once suspending bell is slightly damaged.The putti are variously scuffed and have light marks, possibly paint marks, to their hair and torsos.The frame is fitted with a wood plate to conceal the wiring inside.There are some losses and inconsistencies to the gilding, including to the extended wrists of the putti on the upper tier, where there are darker bands. An impressive Napoleon III French figural ormolu mantel clock- Lerolle Frères, circa 1875, the eight-day two train bell striking movement stamped LEROLLE F..., PARIS, 138, AH, to backplate, the case depicting Minerva depicted standing supporting a shield surmounted by her attendant owl, the shield incorporating the clock dial with enamel cartouche Roman numerals, the foliate decorated gadroon moulded base with reclining figure of Ceres or Fortuna and palmette apron panel flanked by scrolling feet, approximately 70.5cm high, 50cm wideA very similar clock numbered 92 was sold at Sotheby's New York, Lot 319, 22 October 2008 for £9,954 (inc. premium). The important firm of bronziers and sculptors Lerolle Freres was founded in 1836 when Louis Lerolle passed on the business to his two sons. They exhibited ornamental clocks, garnitures, chandeliers and candelabras, predominantly gilt-bronze or silvered, at most of the international exhibitions held during the second half of the 19th century including London 1851, New York 1853, and Paris 1855 (where the firm obtained a médaille de 1re classe). In 1862, Lerolle participated in the Exposition des Beaux Arts Appliqués à l'Industrie and the same year were manufacturing bronzes for the Maison S.A.I. le Prince Napoléon, and the l'Hôtel de la Commission Française.  Condition Report: Movement is complete and in working condition although a clean/service is advised. The dial has noticeable hairline cracks to the V numeral and lesser not so noticeable cracks to the VII and VIII numerals otherwise appears free from significant damage. The case has overall light rubbing to high spots to the front (commensurate with years of dusting!) the rear has very little wear/rubbing to gilding. A French gilt bronze Bacchic figural group, late 19th century, with two dancing nymphs and a satyr, with impressed mark for Jules Graux Foundry to the socle, 68.5cm high; presented on a later fluted variegated grey and white marble column, 117cm highCondition Report: The sculpture has a significant damage to the upper left arm of the central maiden, exposing some of the inner structure of the sculpture. She also has noticeable dents to the left knee, wrist and fingers.The smaller maiden is also scuffed near the hand of the central maiden, and has fissures surrounding the neck, possibly a restoration. The gilding to the infant satyr is scuffed to his tummy and thigh.There is a circa 3-5cm chip to the front edge of the pilaster base. and sections of the pedestal have been replaced with different cuts of marble. A pair of impressive gilt bronze chandeliers in Rococo Revival style, early 20th century, each with ribbon tied medallion finials above moulded supports, descending to an upper tier of branches cast with caryatids supporting twist-fluted quivers issuing foliate and berried fitments, above a further tier of conforming foliate cast branches, with fir cone terminals, approximately 230cm high (2)Condition Report: These chandeliers are currently not fully assembled and have not been removed from or inspected outside of their present crating. They are offered with an assortment of additional branches, terminals and other elements, with which the chandeliers can be expanded. Buyers are encouraged to satisfy themselves as to the composition and completeness of these items. The elements visible in the current arrangement each bear marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use. One is a slightly different shade of gilt, and may have been refreshed. On both occasions, the gilding looks quite bright and relatively recent, and in some areas there is a slightly darker, almost lacquered finish. Each has losses, inconsistencies and marks to the gilt surface, including areas of verdigris oxidisation to some of the foliage, branches and recesses (particularly to the arrows). A French gilt bronze and glazed hall lantern in Louis XIV 'Versailles' style, late 19th century and later refitted, the inverted baluster frame inset with graduated panels and surmounted with a coronet finial, the glass bevelled, 84cm high, 33cm wideCondition Report: Usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use, and there are minor areas of verdigris overall, which could presumably be cleaned. The gilding is a little rubbed to the exposed extremities. There is some radial movement between the rosettes and the frame, though they are stable. One or two panes of glass are a little loose in their frames though at the time of this report all panes are present and intact.Overall this light is well-preserved and in perfectly presentable condition. A late 19th century French ormolu figural "chariot" mantel clock after the model by Frédéric-Eugène Piat, the eight-day countwheel bell striking movement stamped indistinctly *R *501, with slender white enamel Roman numeral chapter ring forming the rim of a six-spoke chariot wheel of the case "Chérubins assis dans un char tiré par un tigre", modelled as a Bacchic scene with seated satyr in leopard drawn chariot, attended by three putti, over a naturalistic scroll cast base signed "E Piat", the whole resting on conforming scroll mounted ebonised base, the case with Arrow foundry mark to underside of satyr's foot and stamped indistinctly also to interior of rear case door, 60cms high, 78.5cms wide. Frédéric-Eugène Piat (1827-1903) was artistic director of the Maison Marchand producing designs primarily in bronze for clocks, fireplace furniture, sculpture and fountains. Perhaps his most famous creation- in association with Maison Millet Paris- was the "Grande Horloge"- a monumental clock in ormolu, bronze and Carrara marble standing 270cms high. The Saint-Loup museum of fine arts in Troyes, Champagne-Ardenne, holds the largest collection of his artwork and designs. Condition Report: Movement is compete and in working order although a precautionary service/clean is advised. The chapter ring has probably become detached and has been re-attached using superglue with some adhesive fingerprints being left on the the enamel surface otherwise ring appears undamaged. The hands are probably replacements. The case is in fine condition with minimal wear/discolouration.Clock is complete with a pendulum and winding key.Condition Report Disclaimer

A substantial French gilt bronze and cut glass twenty-four light chandelier in Louis XV style, third quarter 19th century and later adapted, the cage frame and scrolling branches cast with foliage and rocaille, hung with shaped and faceted pendants and drops overall, approximately 120cm highCondition Report: The gilding looks like it may at one point have been refreshed, and there are darker sections particularly to the interior of the chandelier and one or two vedrigris patches/oxidisation to the sconces. The bottom of the cage is fitted with a section of wood to the inside presumably to cover the later wiring. This may be an adaptation. Some of the bolts have been reinforced with more recent plates and rivets, including to the joins of the arms.The scrolls suspending pendants are a little bent. The pendants vary in style, and it is possible that some are replacements. Others may be missing. Overall, the present arrangement of pendants looks full and symmetrical.Sold as a decorative item, please have tested by a certified electrician prior to use.Condition Report Disclaimer
