Bronze Age Bronze Spear Head, Circa 950-800 BC. A nice example of a Late Bronze Age socketed spear head with dark green even patination.  The spearhead has a slender leaf-shaped blade, the edges of which are bevelled and still relatively sharp. The shaft tapers through the length of the spearhead to the point from the base with the socket itself being at least half the depth of the entire shaft. Two holes in the side of the shaft for fixing via pegs.Length approximately 17.1cm x Width 4cm.Condition: some clipping to the edges of the blade, mostly to one side.Fine all over patination to the metal. A Neolithic stone axe head of trapezoidal form, with a pointed oval profile.Approximately 9.5cm x 5cm.Condition: generally good.Some clipping to the pointed edge, plus further old tool marks from where the head has been shaped.

Johann George Hossauer 1794 Berlin - 1874 ebenda Erinnerungspokal zum Fest "Zauber der weißen Rose" R. M. signiert und datiert "den 10ten July 1830". Bleistiftzeichnung, partiell aquarelliert, auf Velin (Wz. J. Whatman 1829). 60 x 44,3 cm. Gebräunt. Min. Knickfalten. Rahmen min. besch. (69 x 55,5 cm). Johann George Hossauer (1794-1874) gilt als der führende Berliner Goldschmied der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. 1819 gründete er eine "Fabrik für Waren aus Platina, Gold, Silber, Bronze, gold- und silberplattiertem Kupfer nach englischer Art." 1826 ernannte ihn Friedrich Wilhelm III. zum "Goldschmied Sr. Majestät des Königs". Fortan erhielt er vom preußischen Hof fast alle bedeutenden Aufträge, die bis zum Ende seiner Geschäftsaufgabe 1859 vergeben wurden. Hossauers frühestes künstlerisches Hauptwerk ist ein neugotischer Prunkpokal, den er in drei Ausführungen, für die Kaiserin von Russland, den Herzog Carl von Mecklenburg-Strelitz und für König Friedrich Wilhelm III. von Preussen als Erinnerung an das Fest "Zauber der Weissen Rose" fertigte. Das Fest fand anlässlich des Geburtstages der Kaiserin Alexandra Feodorowna am 13. Juli 1829 im Neuen Palais in Potsdam statt. Die Kaiserin, eine geborene Prinzessin Charlotte von Preussen (1798-1860) war die älteste Tochter König Friedrich Wilhelms III. und der Königin Luise. Seit ihrer Hochzeit mit Großfürst Nikolaus Pawlowitsch von Rußland (späterer Kaiser Nikolaus I.) trug sie den russischen Namen Alexandra Feodorowna. Das Fest wurde von ihrem Onkel Herzog Carl von Mecklenburg-Strelitz veranstaltet und gilt als eines der prunkvollsten und aufsehenerregendsten Feste, das je am preußischen Hof gefeiert worden ist. Es stand unter dem Motto "Zauber der Weissen Rose" in Anlehnung an die romantische Erzählung "Der Zauberring" von Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué, der während der Kindheit der Prinzessin Charlotte in Mode gekommen war. Ganz im Bann der romantischen Erzählung hatte man ihr damals den Kosenamen "Blanche Fleur" gegeben. Mit "tableaux vivants", sogenannten lebenden Bildern, wurde die Erzählung unter Einbeziehung der höfischen Gesellschaft nachgestellt. Im Auftrag des Herzogs, des Kronprinzen und der Kaiserin und nach Entwurf von Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) - der auch die Ausstattungen und Bühnendekoration entworfen hatte - fertigte Hossauer zwischen 1829 und 1831 im neugotischen Stil drei silberne, innen vergoldete, 69 cm große Prunkpokale in Form eines Humpen mit Plinthe, reich geschmückt mit den 73 emaillierten Wappen der königlichen und adeligen Teilnehmer. Zwei der drei Ausführungen des prunkvollen Deckelpokals haben sich erhalten: im Sommerschloss Peterhof bei St. Petersburg und im Neuen Pavillon, Schlossgarten Charlottenburg, in der Stiftung Preussische Schlösser und Gärten (SPSG) Berlin-Brandenburg. Aus Hossauers Tagebüchern geht hervor, dass er an den drei Pokalen zeitlich parallel gearbeitet hat. Vorliegende maßstabsgerechte, detaillierte, großformatige Originalzeichnung schuf er nach Fertigstellung des ersten Pokals, sie war bis 2010 nicht bekannt. 1829 fertigte er eine erste eher skizzenhafte Zeichnung, die sich heute in der Plankammer der Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten (SPSG) in Potsdam befindet. Erhalten haben sich auch zwei Entwurfszeichnungen Schinkels im Kupferstichkabinett SMPK Berlin und in der Plankammer der SPSG Potsdam. Jean Albert Errard, French SAS and French Resistance:- An Interesting Collection of Photographs and Ephemera, including citations for Croix de Guerre, Medale Militaire etc., numerous hand written letters, an S.N.P.P. medallion in maroon leather cloth case, two F.N.F.L. cap talleys, a pocket compass, button plate, pewter sandwich box/flask, numerous photographs, SAS publications etc.; "Amicale des Anciens Parachutistes SAS et des Anciens Commandos de la France Libre" - a Longwy Pottery Charger, numbered 021 and inscribed "A Notre Camarade S.A.S. Jean Errard; a Lizio Art Pottery Dish, incised with a parachutist below St. Marcel (the Maquis of St. Marcel were resistance fighters in the war); also an MBE Breast Badge, in case of issue to his wife Josephine Errard, for her post-war work in the British Embassy in Paris, where she worked for the welfare of British nationals and their repatriation, together with the citation.Footnote:- Jean Albert Errard, known as "Shell Head", due to the unusual shape of his head, was abandoned when he was born in 1916, and was taken in by a farming family in the Meuse region of Belgium/France, where he was treated like one of the family. He worked on the farm until he joined the sub-mariners at the age of 19. He was in Brest when the Germans invaded in June 1940 and went to England with the evacuating British Expeditionary Forces. He was one of the first to join the French Libre Forces and was sent to Dakar, Gabon and French Equatorial Africa, and took part in the Syria Campaign 1941. He returned to England in March 1942 and volunteered to serve with Captain Philippe Kieffer's group of Commandos. In August 1942 he was involved in Operation Jubilee (Raid on Dieppe) where heavy casualties were incurred, and he was one of the few to get back to the UK alive. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with bronze star "To show evidence, on the 19th August 1942, of the highest qualities of courage and was a cog in the team which took part in three successive attempts at Bonneval after his convoy was attacked by German motorboats, and in spite of deadly artillery fire and automatic gun fire, made it to land". In November 1943, with the 4th Battalion Parachutists SAS, he parachuted into France and went on to work with the French Resistance with their sabotage programme. He was later dropped behind enemy lines before the D-Day landings, where he was responsible for "harassing" the enemy. He left the war zone of St. Marcel by escaping from the Germans with the help of the religious order of Malestroit who hid him in their convent. During Jean's time in the war, he sustained injuries from a hand grenade and met his future wife Josephine Lovegrove, whilst recuperating. Jean was a friend of General de Gaulle and the French spy Marie Clair. After the war, Jean's wife Josephine, travelled around Afghanistan after being inspired by the book "Where the Four Worlds Meet - Hindu Kush, 1959" by Fosco Maraini, which is included in this lot.

Artillery Regiments of the British Empire: - a Display, comprising a white metal pre-1872 pattern cavalry helmet plate surmounted by a lion head and set with a copper star and oval panel embossed with two field guns and farsi script, and surrounded by twenty seven shoulder titles, thirty two cap and collar badges in bronze, brass and white metal to Australian Field Artillery, Canada Artillery, New Zealand Field Artillery, South Africa Heavy Artillery, etc., and a Victorian Madras Horse Artillery brass harness mount, all loosely mounted on a blue card display in a glazed frame.

A Japanese Shinto Short Katana, the 66cm steel blade signed at the tang, with two mekugi ana, copper habaki, iron tsuba of scalloped circular form pierced with leaf shape panels and with foliate shakudo decoration, the same covered tsuka bound with green braid and with bronze menuki as a devil's head and a fruiting branch, lacks saya, 91cm, together with strips of rice paper inscribed with good luck verses which were taken from the inside the original tsuka ; a Japanese Shin Shinto Wakizashi, with 36cm chromium plated steel blade, unsigned tang, pierced iron tang and wood hilt, lacks saya, 52.5cm (3)1 - Numerous nicks to the edge of the blade which has a dull edge and dirty hardened grease patina. 2 - Numerous nicks to edge of blade. Blade and tsuba have been later chromium plated.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, an MBE Breast Badge, awarded to to Winifred Jean Bavin for Voluntary work in Lancashire, in case of issue, together with a framed citation dated 11th June 1994, and related items including an album containing official Downing Street letters, a photocopy of her entry in the Queen's Honours List, letters of congratulations, photographs and booklets, two silk ties, a silk scarf, an enamel box and cover, a resin bronze "20th Century Seal", a book of Statutes, a book - The Chapel of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, and the official videotape of the Service of Dedication in St Paul's Cathedral 8th May 1996Footnote :- Winifred Jean Bavin, née Williamson, was the daughter of Engineer Rear Admiral Edwin Williamson, A.D.C. to King George VI 1936.She was the founder of the North Lancashire Victim Support Scheme.

A Late 1944 Japanese Shin Gunto Katana, the 65cm steel blade with faux hamon, brass habaki, iron tsuba, dark green/black braid bound same tsuka with bronze leafy branch menuki, brass fuchi and kashira, the black lacquer saya with leather cover, 96cmBlack patching to the blade towards the tip. Leather press stud strap on the leather scabbard cover is broken. Unable to remove tsuka fittings to view the tang.

The Royal Society's Silver Medal in Commemoration of Captain Cook (1784), designed by Lewis Pingo, the obverse with a bust of Captain James Cook and legend 'IAC.COOK OCEANI INVESTIGATOR ACERRIMUS' (James Cook, the most intrepid explorer of the oceans) 'REG. SOC. LOND. SOCIO SVO', the reverse with a figure of Fortune depicted as a standing draped female figure holding a spear in one hand and a rudder resting on a globe in her other hand, with a British shield resting against a pillar, and the legend 'NIL INTENTATUM NOSTRI LIQUERE' (Our men have left nothing unattempted), in the exergue 'AUSPICIIS GEORGII III L.P.f.', approximately 4.3cm, in a later white metal laurel leaf frame pendant from a white metal chain.Footnote :- this medal is one of only 322 produced in silver and commissioned by the Royal Society after Cook's death in Hawaii in 1779. There were 22 examples struck in gold and 577 in bronze. The medal was sponsored by the Royal Society in 1784 for subscribers to a fund in Cook's memory.
