Enzo Plazzotta (Italian, 1921-1981)A bronze model of a rearing foalDark brown patination, the foal reared on its hind legs with head slightly turned to sinister, marked Plazotta 1/12 to the base, 22cm wide, 12.5cm deep, 34cm high (8 1/2in wide, 4 1/2in deep, 13in high) Footnotes:Born at Mestne, near Venice, Plazzotta later enrolled in the Academia di Brera in Milan and studied under Messina. After the war, which had interrupted his studies, he was commissioned to produce a statue of the figure of David for the Italian Committee for National Liberation and in 1947 the sculptor, along with the anti-fascist leader General Cordona, presented the figure to the British Special Forces in London in honour of their work with the partisans. He then moved to London but continued to exhibit in Paris and New York.
