WW2 Medals and Insignia of Lt Colonel D G Boyd Royal Engineers who was Mentioned In despatches for Gallantry in North West Europe, the medals consist of 1939-45 star, Africa star with 8th Army bar, Italy star, France & Germany star, Defence medal, 1939-45 war medal with MID oak leaf and 1937 George VI Coronation medal which has been privately named around the edge Lt D G B Boyd RE. Medals have been court mounted. Medals are accompanied by his original identity discs, officers tunic bronze collar badges, tunic medal ribbons and some tunic buttons. ** Derek Gerald Boyd enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in 1933, he retired from the army on the 2nd September 1953 and was given honorary rank of Lt Colonel. His father was Major General Gerald Farrell Boyd CB CMG DSO DCM Royal Irish Regiment. The mention in despatches award appeared in the London Gazette 4th April 1946. He wrote two books once he left the army, The Gordon Heritage – The Story of General Charles Gordon and the Gordon Boy’s School and A Short History The Royal Engineers. Medals come with a large amount of photocopied paperwork.
