The condition is good, my only comment would be the mounting board has faded with age but that is to be expected.

A pair of late 19th-century Austrian bronze figural candlesticks modelled as standing bears with glass eyes, each grasping the stem of a single candle sconce, 20 cm high, together with a pair of early twentieth-century spelter bears atop marble book ends, 12 cm, and two Black Forest carved wood figures of bears, one the base for a single trumpet vase, 30 cm high. The bronze bears candlesticks are in good order but have slightly wonky eyes.The carved bear epergne base is in good order and is of a higher standard of carving than the usual Black-Forrest bears encountered, some radial shrinkage cracks to the rim.the seated carved bear is OKThe bookends are in good used order, the only comment would be that the edges are a little bit chipped.Please see further images supplied that illustrate the above points.

The portrayal of the deity continued in both male and female forms until the late Ming dynasty, when the feminine form became prevalent. Songzi Guanyin, Avalokiteshvara with a child, very likely first appeared around this time and it is possible that the 'Avalokiteshvara with a child' iconography was inspired by images of the Madonna and Child, introduced to China by Jesuit missionaries in around 1600. Ceramic groups of the Christian subject also appear in Kangxi period Dehua kiln production, supporting this hypothesis. Compare the present figure with two seated gilt-bronze figures of Avalokiteshvara with child, both attributed to the Ming dynasty and with similar features, and treatment of the ornaments and garments, sold in Sotheby's London, 15 April 1983, lot 108, the second sold in Sotheby's London, 2 November 1984, lot 341. In visual representations of the Guanyin, the figure of Sudhana would appear next to the figure of Longnu, the Dragon King's daughter. These two youths are considered Guanyin's acolytes, and while there is no scriptural basis for this grouping, the two figures often appear together, Sudhana standing to the right of Guanyin, and the figure of Longnu on the left. Robert Mowry also suggests that the appearance of fine paper speckled with gold and silver in the 15th century 'might have also played a role in the creation of such abstract decoration', see Robert D. Buddhism was the primary religion of the Qing dynasty and there were numerous Buddhist shrines and temples, as well as altars, in the private quarters of the emperors and empresses. All of these necessitated ritual paraphernalia, including altar sets, which were made in various materials including bronze, porcelain and cloisonné enamel of varying size. Luduan-form censers are seen as early as late Ming/early Qing and their popularity is demonstrated by the surviving examples. The figure may be identified as Wenchang Wang, also known as Wenchang dijun, the Daoist god of Culture and Literature, more commonly depicted holding a ruyi-sceptre. Most indicative of his important position in the Daoist canon is a motif on his head ornament resembling a crown which is decorated with a three-peaked mountain flanked by the sun and moon. Stephen Little suggests such head-dresses worn by these deities distinguished their places in the celestial hierarchy, see Stephen Little, Daoism and the Arts of China, Chicago, 2000, p.248. A similar hat is also worn by a figure representing one of the Three Purities, carved in high relief at the eight cave-temples at Long Shan in Shanxi province and attributed to the fourteenth century, illustrated ibid., p. 27, fig. 9. A related massive bronze figure measuring 8 feet in height, was sold in Sotheby's New York, 23 and 24 May 1974, lot 147.
