First World War scarce Women's Volunteer Reserve bronze cap badge, two loops and maker, J.R.Gaunt, London to the reverse, together with a W.V.R. bronze shoulder title, two loops to the reverse, no maker, and a Kent W.V.R. shoulder title two loops to the reverse, no maker, the badges are held on a small wooden shield on the reverse of which is written in pencil, 'These were worn by my mother, Mrs. K.E. Dicking during her 1914-18 war service in the Women's Volunteer Reserve at Dover, Kent', followed by an illegible signature with Nee Dicking in brackets, all in good condition with a small amount of verdigris to the reverse,the Women's Volunteer Reserve organisation developed from a very early one, the Women’s Emergency Corps, which came into existence in August 1914, it was the initiative of Decima Moore and the Hon. Evelina Haverfield, a militant suffragette,who seized the opportunity provided by the war to organise a role for women

Casimir Brau Jumping Horse Mascot. One of the popular group of leaping animal mascots designed by Casimir Brau and offered from France in the 1920s and early 1930s. Nickel-plated on bronze with the finish in excellent condition, signed 'C. Brau' on the top of the base, stamped 'Depose' on the edge of the base. 8¼-inches (22cm) long, mounted on a rectangular base.
Colin George - A 'Farman Cars' Icarus Mascot as retailed by Finnigan's of Bond Street, London, but crafted in Paris in the mid-1920s. With very good detail, numbered 5295, signed by the artist and with the impressed foundry Socle of Contenot-Lelievre. Nickel-plated on bronze, inscribed Finnigan's - London at the front of the hollow base. 6-inches (15cm) high.
Ouragan Medusa. A mythical figure by George Poitvin, probably for the retailer Hermes in the 1920s. Signed 'G. Poitvin' on the dais, with the Syndicate des Fabricators de Bronzes foundry socle and numbered 2113. Excellent flowing detail, hollow cast, nickel-plated on bronze. 4¼-inches (11cm) high, not mounted
An Arthur S. Gilliot 'Alpine Tourist' Bicycle. A mid 1950s (?) lug less framed machine of 24-inches with a bronze brazed seat tube, pannier carrier and lugs. Featuring Gilliot front forks and Agrati style rear fork ends, chain adjustment is via an eccentric bottom bracket. A 10-speed Cyclo Benelux gearing is fitted with two controls mounted on the cross tube, Endrick rims with wide GB hubs, semi-drop aluminium 19-inch handlebars, mounted on a GB extended stem, Brooks B17 saddle, Mafac centre-pull brakes and finished in a light brown. A frame number was not visible but may be stamped on the rear dropouts beneath the hub nuts.
CECIL WALTER THOMAS O.B.E. F.R.B.S. (1885-1976), (ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT WILL APPLY ON THIS LOT - please ask for details), a presentation bronze sculpture in the Art Deco manner of a young naked man emerging from flowing water, incised signature and date 1928, and presentation inscription "To Ian Horobin Warden of Mansfield House, 41cm high, on stepped wooden base. Cecil Walter Thomas started as a gem engraved undertaking commissions including some for Faberge. He was also a renowned medallist creating work for the Royal Mint, a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Engravers and later in life undertook many commissions for funerary bronze effigies. During WWI he was an Officer in Military Intelligence until he was wounded and invalided out. Ian Horobin (1899-1976) served as a Royal Naval Reserve in WWI and was a Squadron Leader in the RAF in WWII. He was captured and held prisoner by the Japanese in 1941, tortured, and released in 1945. In 1923 he became warden of Mansfield House in the East End and later on became an MP.
