Gallipoli/Dardanelles interest: A trio of Great War Service medals, awarded to Lieut G N Palmes (1894 - 1915), Yorkshire Light Infantry (Killed In Action), original boxes and papers, together with a handwritten book inscribed "This book was taken from Seddut Bahr Fort (in the Dardanelles) on March 1915 by Lt Cmdr GB Palmes DSO RN who landed with a demolition party to blow up the Turkish guns. Only 14 casualties occurred in the force of 200 men, their landing being unopposed and their re-embarkation covered by the guns of HMS Ocean (subsequently sunk in the attack on 18 March)", together with several other prize medallions, including Aldershot Command Athletic Association Bronze medal. Lieut Palmes was killed in action in 1915 at Suez.
