An Oriental bronze jardinière 19th century, everted rim above collar of miniature roundels, squat globular body with two panels decorated with finely cast dragons below two small rectangular reserves bearing three character marks, twin applied Shishi handles, on raised circular foot, no base, 16in. (40.7cm.) diameter, 10in. (25.4cm.) high, lacks base.
A small bronze Japanese censer Meiji period, of small and squat globe design, detachable cover with pierced segments surmounted by a squirrel on a bed of foliate and fruit finial, the base with scalloped edges, Greek key design collar and applied foliate spray lifters, on three stout supports, 3¼in. (8.25cm.) high.
A small collection of antiquities to include an ancient Roman white clay wine vessel, 6in. (13.5cm.) high, spout broken; together with a small collection of bronze items including a Roman bronze crossbow fibula, a spearhead, a miniature axe head, ball and chain horse-bit, fob seal and coins. (10) * CONDITION:- Clay vessel: Large chip to spout. Small frit to rim. No other damage noted.- Crossbow fibula: Part detached (see photos) and section missing from this detached piece. Heavy verdigris and some sediment encrustation. One dome on crossbar has small dings two small holes. The other has larger hole and small hole/crack to front. - Spearhead: Verdigris and some encrustation throughout. Some damage and losses to hollow terminal - part turned inwards with visible fracturing at bend in metal. Some dents to metal above this damaged section on one side. A few minor nicks to edges of blade but blade good overall.- Axe head: Fairly light verdigris across surface. Some wear to edges of blade and what appears to be an old chip to one corner of horizontal blade. Old chip to mounting aperture at base of head and also to top edge of hole.- Ball & chain horse bit: Chain later. Rust and losses to inside pin on each ball head. One side still has one link of original bronze chain attached, the other is completely missing, and the lather chain is attached to a large wire loop onto the ball. Casting flaw hole to top of one ball. - Fob seal: Good patina - some wear to verdigris from handling. A good example. - Buckle/brooch (?) with attached chain: Verdigris throughout, with some wear to a 1.5cm. section of the ring (possibly due to rubbing on the chain). Wear to one of the flanges behind ring (it is noticeably smaller than the other). No obvious losses or damage.- Coins: Please see photos.
An Austrian Bergman factory cold painted bronze early 20th century, modelled as a tribal warrior with shield in his left hand and a gnarled club raised in the right, dressed in loin-cloth and horned headdress, Bergman foundry stamp to the shield and the underside and stamped 'Geschutz;' 6¾in. (7.2cm.) high.
A bronze figure of a lobster or crayfish 20th century, naturalistically cast with curvature to tail and antennae, 11in. (28cm.) long. * CONDITION: No damage or restoration. Believed to be second half of 20th century. Some powdery white oxidisation showing around some of the textured edges of the casting, notably the joints of the legs and body. It does clean off with care.
A pair of French patinated bronze and ormolu candlesticks second half of 19th century, the foliate sconces on reeded baluster columns with gilt mounts, to gilt circular bases with foliate, swagged and vase decoration, on ebonised plinths, 8¾in. (22.25cm.) high, later converted to lamps, 14½in. (37cm.) high overall, complete with pleated grey silk shades. -2
Lynn Chadwick, R.A. (1914-2003) bronze sculpture of a female seated upon a rectangular plinth, impressed 'C28S 1985' to underside, edition 2/9, 6in. (15.3cm.) high. * CONDITION REPORT: In good condition, with no damage or restoration noted. No wear to patination. Accompanied by a grey and white marble plinth, but not fixed in place - underside has some old blu-tac where it was used to steady the bronze on the plinth.
Lynn Chadwick, R.A. (1914-2003) bronze sculpture of cloaked female figure, impressed 'C' and 'PE' within triangles, C15S, edition 4/9, 18¾in. (47.7cm.) high. * CONDITION REPORT: In good condition. No restoration. Minor abrasions to bottom of feet and some rubbing and very small scratches to surface patination to edge of lower sections of cloak. Very small and minor rubs to patination to top edge of one leg. No other defects noted.
