A Miscellaneous Collection of Antique Bronze and other sporting medallions, including eight Astor County, Elkington Sporting medallions in original presentation boxes, one silver metal, one later bronze `The National Rifle Association`, Hudson Bay Company 1970 medallion together with a set of miniature medals including Defence and Territorial Medals.
Attributed to FERDINAND PREISS; an Art Deco bronze and ivory figure of a female dancer, her cap, chest garment and shorts of bronze, the remainder of her body carved from ivory, unsigned, raised on onyx plinth, height 26.5cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: The figure is apart from her base, the tip of her right foot has been broken off and remains in the base, there are five age cracks to her legs, both arms are slightly loose, there is a small crack to the back of her neck and a few stress cracks to her arms and a chip to her left armpit. I would agree that the quality of the metal mounts is not superb, however the ivory is pretty good. Fingers complete. Base has two or three tiny nibbles but nothing significant. Arm span is 18cm.
DEMETRE CHIPARUS (1886-1947); an Art Deco cold painted bronze and ivory figure of a young girl carrying an umbrella, raised on octagonal variegated onyx base, the reverse of the umbrella signed Chiparus, Etling, Paris, height 25cm. Reference; Bryan Catley, Chiparus-Master of Art Deco, second edition by Alberto Shayo, page 64. CONDITION REPORT: This has been in the same family for a number of years. The umbrella stem is misshapen and the lower section beneath her hands is missing. Her hands have also been detached at some stage and reattached to the bronze but this does not detract from the figure. A couple of the points of the umbrella are slightly bent. Some nibbles to the edges of the base otherwise appears good with no further obvious signs of faults, damage or restoration.
DEMETRE CHIPARUS (1886-1947); an Art Deco cold painted bronze and ivory figure of a young girl carrying a satchel raised on a circular stepped onyx base, the reverse signed Chiparus, Etling, Paris, height 20cm. Reference; Bryan Catley, Chiparus-Master of Art Deco, second edition by Alberto Shayo, page 64. CONDITION REPORT: This has been in the same family for a number of years. There are slightly rubbed marks to her shoulders and there is a 1cm fine surface scratch to the front of her dress, the strap of the satchel is slightly misshapen but overall in good condition. There are a few nibbles to the foot rim of the base.
