Thailand, 16th/17th century The outer robe (uttarasangha) covers both shoulders while the lower garment is recognisable at the waist and by its centre fold, the right hand originally was held in abhaya mudra, the left hand hangs down. Ce monnayage est alors monométallique, basé sur la livre d’argent, relativement instable et peu centralisé. De plus, l’économie monétaire ne constitue qu’une faible part de l’économie réelle plus axée sur l’échange de matières premières rares telles que le sel. En outre, la thésaurisation monétaire se fait majoritairement en devises étrangères, notamment en monnaies d’or islamiques réputées pour leur plus grande stabilité. Le système qui régit le Proche Orient est trimétallique, stable, contrôlé directement par les pouvoirs en place, appuyé sur des réserves d’or conséquentes que permet un accès facilité aux gisements sub-sahariens. A la fondation des Etats latins d’Orient et notamment du Royaume de Jérusalem, les souverains chrétiens s’adaptent aux réalités économiques locales et entreprennent de frapper des monnaies d’or. Dans un premier temps, celles-ci sont généralement des imitations de types islamiques, à l’image de la présente monnaie qui reprend un type fatimide du souverain al-Āmir.
