Roman bronze phallic pendant. 1st - 4th century AD. A cast bronze pendant in the form of a three-dimensional phallus and testes. Above the phallus is a trapezoidal projection, representing the pubic hair, which has a central piercing and retains a twisted bronze loop for suspension. 28mm x 24mm, 22.7g.
Roman circular bronze seal box containing a small silver penannular ring. The seal box is circular with a hinged lid that is decorated with moulded concentric circles and is silvered. The hinge functions but the axis bar is missing. When opened, a small silver penannular ring was found inside. 24mm, 4.7g. Ring: 11mm, 0.7g. Private collection, acquired UK collectors market 1991.
Roman Bronze Mount Fragment. Circa, 1st - 4th century AD. Copper-alloy, 32.68 g, 59.49 mm. A large cast bronze mount depicting a naked male figure wrestling a lion. Most likely a depiction of Hercules. The piece is curved on the reverse and was most likely part of, or mounted a large bronze vessel. From an old English collection.
Late Bronze Age Piece Circa, 1000 - 100 BC. Copper-alloy, 29.16 g, 57.62 mm. An unusual piece dated by PAS, middle Bronze Age to Iron Age. As yet unidentified but believed to be a chape or pommel. Moustache-shaped with a central fixing hole and recessed panel. Ref: see PAS: NARC-6A4546, LVPL-B000C6.
Carolingian trefoil mount. A heavily gilded bronze trifoliate mount from a sword scabbard circa 9th century AD. At the centre is a raised trefoil within a circular panel. Each lobe has raised foliate decoration and there is an attachment loop in each cusp. Similar mounts are depicted in the Vivian Bible, which was presented to Charles the Bald in AD 846. 40mm, 21.2g.
Celtic Knife Handle. Bronze, 25.27 grams. 46.55 mm. A rare piece of Iron Age metalwork. The piece is curved on the outer edge and tapers to a point resembling a horn. The back edge is straight with a small projecting stylised animal that tapers to meet the inside of the curve forming a perfect finger grip. On each side the piece is decorated with pierced scrolled tendrils in a typical Celtic style. Ref: for similar style see. British Museum: Later Prehistoric Antiquities of The British Isles, p. 62. Plate XIII. Accompanied by an old dealers ticket, found Hampshire.
Anglo-Saxon Zoomorphic Bowl Mount.Circa 6th-7th century AD. Bronze, 55.51g. 58.60 mm. A cast bronze hanging bowl or bucket mount in the form of a bird. The stylised wings tapper along the length of the body and terminate in a point. The neck extends out from the body with the head and beak forming a hook. Ref: West, 1993: 315. fig. 156. Found in Kent and accompanied by an old dealers label.
Viking strap end. A very fine cast bronze strap end of waisted, sub-rectangular form with an animal head at the centre and an expanding foliate Ringerike style terminal. The attachment end is split to accommodate the strap and has a single bronze rivet still in situ. Thomas class H, circa 11th century. 41mm, 8.8g. Byzantine Ring Circa 8th century AD. Copper-alloy, 12.04 g, 27.30 mm. Ring size, UK O, US 7. A large bronze ring of stirrup-shape with a wide shank and oval bezel. Decorated quite crudely with a toothed border around the bezel and chevrons on each shoulder. The face of the bezel has two wavy lines either side of a single straight line at the centre.
