Sir Jacob Epstein, 1880-1959 Rose Bronze with dark brown patina Height (including base): 42cm.; 16.5in. Epstein saw Rose perform in the chorus of a revue at the Chelsea Palace and she subsequently modelled for him. To be sold together with a letter from the artist and a letter from Jackson's Pictures. Provenance Jackson's (Pictures) Ltd, Nantwich, whence purchased, 1954, and thence by descent to the present owner Literature R.Buckle, Jacob Epstein, Sculptor, London, 1963, no.304, illustrated p.306
After Pierre Jules Mêne - Chien Braque à la Feuille, circa 1850, a brown patinated bronze figure of a hound with his head turned to one side, raised on a naturalistic curved rectangular base cast with signature, height approx 11.5cm. LT Bronze Framed Enamel Target Sign MANSION HOUSE. The station is in the City of London, near Mansion House (although Bank is actually closer). It is served by trains on the Circle Line and District Line between Blackfriars and Cannon Street. Measures 24" x 18" and is in excellent condition throughout. Note: Recent years has seen the station becoming featured in several trivia quiz questions, as it is one of only two stations on the Underground to have all of the five vowels in its name (the other being South Ealing)
Philippe Hiquily (1925-) (French): Moving Bronze Sculpture, signed "Hiquily 1/1", 58cm high, 86cm long *Hiquily was born in 1925 in Paris. He enlisted in the army in 1944 and was posted to Indo-China between 1945 and 1947, where he was inspired by the temple of Angkor and the mobile bamboo fountains of the Lao mountains. In 1948 he began at Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was interested in primitive arts and frequented the Musee de L'Homme in the Louvre. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts in 1953 with prize for sculpture for a piece in iron entitled "Neptune".
