It was there that she became friends with some of the greatest artists and writers of the early twentieth century then resident in Montparnasse and especially at La Ruche, among them were Pablo Picasso Georges Braque, Marc Chagall , Jean Cocteau, Ilya Ehrenburg, Max Jacob, Moise Kisling, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani and Chaim Soutine.It was while a resident of La Ruche that Marevna met the prominent Mexican artist Diego Rivera and the two had a complicated relationship, which produced a daughter, Marika in 1919. Rivera returned to Mexico in 1921, leaving Marevna and their daughter behind in Paris.The following lots (1238-1249a) are some of the items Marevna chose to surround herself with in later years, some of which can be seen in the images shown here, notably her easel, upon which no doubt she created and showcased some of her most famous works, and an alabaster mask of an unidentified face, perhaps showcasing the inspiration she received from her friends and contemporaries, such as Picasso and Braque

Equestrian Games of the XVI Olympiad, Stockholm 1956; a finely engraved two-handled glass Trophy detailing the Three-Day Team Event Gold Medal winners, the Grand Prix Jumping Bronze Medals and Grand Prix Dressage, the front of the Trophy engraved with a horse mounted Classical style figure above the Olympic rings, 24cm high CONDITION REPORT: The Equestrian Games of the XVth Olympiad, Stockholm 1956 is engraved around the outside of the lip, one side is engraved with a rider and horse above the 5 conjoined Olympic rings, the reverse of the piece is engraved Three Day Team Event Gold Medals and then the recipients, then the Grand Prix Jumping Bronze Medals and again the recipients, and then Grand Prix Dressage.
